less on ATF

Guys,
I finally made up my mind to change transmission fluid for my 93 Maxima SE.. I drained and refilled ATF

I found out that I could only drain little more than 2 Quarts. I was expecting half of the full capacity. I think it should have been more like 4 Quarts..

I cheked the using the dipstick it was showing between cold and hot mark.

I put only 2+ quarts now because it is said not to overfill

Is there any thing wrong with the check I am making..? or if the vehicle is not level surface will it make a big difference..?

Appreciate your input guys..

the vehicle must definitely be level, or tilted down in front, otherwise the fluid will run to the back of the tranny.

Also, be sure to follow the directions in the manual on how to check the fluid.. (run the car through the gears, let the tranny get warmed up, THEN check the fluid with the engine running and the tranny in neutral or park)
See what that tells you on the dipstick. you may in fact be a couple quarts low on fluid and don't know it.
