This girl was supposed to merge into one of the two lanes I was in, and made a U-turn instead. I was almost next to her and had no way of avoiding to hit her. She say she didn't see me. Well, that's it for my 93se baby. I may be parting the car out. No mods except the ASP UDP. I'll have to see in what condition it is.

I am sorry to hear about your car. It is always a great loss when any Max (especially an SE) goes down. It is also good that you weren't hurt.

I just hope you will stick it to her insurance company for enough to buy another Max.

Chris

P.S. -- I got dibs on your coil packs! j/k

It's gonna be enough. Hell yeah I'll stick with the 3rd gen. It's grown on me. What sucks is there are only three of them on autotrader and they're all auto.

After all is said and done I'm just glad I'm not in any kind of hospitalized institution.

I'm in jacksonville, fl. Leather seats, a beige variation, very good condition, no holes, little scratches here and there. I may keep it depending on what I find on autotrader. Car's been quality painted few months ago. I should have some pics up soon. Where was that guy who wanted a max's body haha.

You could buy back your car from the insurance company and swap trannies, if all you can find is an auto. You have all of the parts. Plus, your odds are probably 50/50 that you won't find one with leather interior in good shape like yours is.

Or, if you are like me and don't have the down time to do a swap, find one outside your city and fly or road trip with someone on a weekend. I bought a car that was about 300 miles away. It was fun to drive back in my new car!

Sorry to hear about your car. As bad as this sounds, you might actually come out ahead with a car you like better. That's what happened to me. Just a thought.

Thanks for the heads up guys. Just to clarify, it was not a manual. But given the experience with the auto, I do want a manual next if possible. It's VERY hard to find ANY good-shape maxima around here. There's a total of three autotragics on autotrader, and one has over 200k, the other 175k, the third low at 100k but it' 3500 freaking dollars and it's a gxe.

T-man, half of those things are not salvageable/unavailable. Hood/front bumper got hit, no shift handle (auto), leather ain't black, rear bumper somehow got damaged by the impact, and the trunk is fine except that the stock spoiler started to come off on the sides. I do have clear corners in perfect shape but might keep them for myself.

Well, two of the above mentioned max's are sold. The owner of the third one wasn't available. I may be forced to buy something else against my will. There's a 4th gen for 4k..

http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/v...lor=&cardist=6

And an I30t for 5k..

http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/v...or=&cardist=14

I read that the I30 and the 4th gen are almost the same. Is it worth paying 1k more for the I30t?

How far did you look? You are near Jacksonville, right ? Did you check very far around you? The must be several million people within a few hours drive from you. One of them has to have a good max for sale!

Man, where you are, I would check Orlando, Tampa, maybe even Atlanta. I know that's kind of far, but it's a big enough town you could probably find a decent 5-speed.

scavenging

If it's not totalled I'm looking for a passenger-side fog light.

Sorry to hear about the crash. Some dumb explorer did the same to my civic this last spring. It's no fun.

After desperately looking for a decent max, I decided to call every single dealer in town. So I grabbed the phonebook, did over 200 calls today, and only 10 dealers had a 3rd gen, with only 2 manuals. Pathetic. Prices varied greatly between 1200 and 6500. I already dismissed two that were near where I live. Tomorrow will be the big day. I had an unusual offer during one of the conversations. One of the dealers offered me to go to an auction with him, and select a car I like. Is this a great opportunity or just a sales pitch?

negotiate amount of markup before you go.
remember that these cars all have problems that is why they are at the auction.
whatever damage you see. estimate the cost to repair and double it. and bid accordingly.
and above all:
don't get caught up in the bidding

I finally had to extend my search to 300 miles on autotrader. There are 4 candidates located in st petersburg (fl), ft lauderdale(fl), beverly hills (fl), and birmingham (al), respectively. Before I make a trip down there myself, I was gonna check if anyone lives close to there. I'll paypal you $20 to testdrive the car. PM me to discuss the exact location etc.

Three SE's in the whole town and they were junk. I found a 93se on a dealer's graveyard that he wanted a $1000 for. Supposedly it needed radiator and battery only. I went there with a mechanic friend of mine who installed the radiator, and turns out engine needed an overhaul since the lifters went bad from extensive unuse. Project scraped. Also, I didn't buy the old car back because it would've been the parts car for the planned project above. Insurance wanted $600 for it, and so had difficulty finding space and concerns about my next car's trim (VE/VG/auto/manual). So sorry, no parts for those who have anticipated them.
