Q: Identifying odd sound

I've searched, but no luck. If anyone has heard this, I'd appreciate help with the diagnosis.

1993 VG Auto

1. Odd vibrating/shaking sound, that resembles power saw.
2. Only occurs at exactly 2000 RPM's in all gears.
3. If accelerator is held at 2000 RPM, sound remains steady.
4. Source of sound is definitely from the front end.

I'm thinking transmission, but I don't want to rule out exhaust rattle. I haven't had a chance to check it out underneath yet. What do you guys think?

Thanks a lot.

Ok a question, does it only make this sound when actually moving or does it also do it at 2K rpm standing still?

If it also does it standing still check for loose bolts on heat shields they will rattle bad at a specific rpm if loose.

1. Yes, while standing still and in action.

2. I think you may have it. I need a new hiet shield due to deterioration (and in new cat in turn). I should have looked their first.

Unfortunately, I only work on my car ever few weeks when I visit it at a garage out of town (not daily driver).

Thanks man.

I have this same problem, but mine only does it when moving. Any ideas of what this could be? It isn't my heat shield cause I have already ripped that off.

Hey guys, You may think this sounds weird but i had the exact same problem and when i put my new injectors ported my upper manifold the problem was gone i think the engine was knocking under the 2000 rpm load or like between 45 - 55 mph , i new that atleast 1 of the injecors wasnt firing so i changed it planning on just fixing my injector probelm and turned out to me the rattling sound. I thought it was my tranny at first or even my brakes , cuz it felt like ripples in my rotors vibrating , but it was the motor if u got the cash chage the injectors and clean ur upper manifold and i bet u will loose the rattling
