Power steering problem

My dads 90GXE did something strange the other day. He drove to the store and all was fine. As he started his return trip, the power steering didn't work. He got home and told me about it. I checked for leaks and to make sure the belt was ok. Everything was fine, no leak, belt tight, fluid good. Started the car and the steering is working fine.
Anyone had this happen?????
Any ideas????

I would add a filter into the return line to help prevent any further damage from destroying the pump, rack , or lines/hoses. It's cheap insurance.

Could also be the rack going bad.

It would probably be a good idea to flush and fill the systemat this point.

What kind of filter would you put in there?

They make universal in-line filters for the power steering and transmission. Just don't expect your local autozoner to have a clue

I'm going to flush it and see what comes out. Hope I don't have to change the pump $$$$.
I'm thinking rubbish or valve not sealing someplace.
I guess it's just getting old.
