acceleration

alright i was finnaly starting to drive my new maxima hard and more like a car like it should be driven. but i was feeling like it would not accelerate very well. it just didnt get up and go right away. is there anything that you guys think might help me get movin quicker. and my car is a 94 gxe.
also is there anyone on here from the city of st. louis. if so do you know any gppd tune up shop that i should take my car to for a good tune up?

It's not that fast of a car man. Especially the GXE. You wanna make it quicker then do some mods like a new exhaust setup, especially the Y-pipe. Install a cold air intake, get a lighter underdrive pulley, advance the timing, do a custom turbo setup, etc...

92-94 GXE = 160 horsepower VG motor
92-94 SE = 190 horsepower VE motor (more up and go especially in the 5spd ! )

aw I wouldn't say a GXE isn't that fast of a car..actually its not that FAST..just quick..mine CAN burn the 8" wide tires for a block and a half on dry pavement...until I put my 400 sbc in my truck, it smoked my truck easily..well..actually..my truck would leave a cloud of smoke so heavy you needed a lighthouse to see if I reved it a little after starting it, so I guess my truck actually SMOKED the max, but, not in a speed sense..and my truck was somwhat quick then..esp after you crossed hwy speeds and had the windows open a crack and couldn't hear the 5500+ rpms as you eased it past the 85 mark and wrapped it around the back of the speedo and then saw the little red and blue lights in the mirror..those lights arn't pretty..

Seriously though, I would either setup CAI, or if you want the cheaper routes, cheap high flow or even a K&N filter would be an improvement...once I replace the 2 window regulators that are bad on my GXE and track down a spare tranny, I'm going to put a mandrel y-pipe on it and maybe buy some bigger pipe to run back to the muffler..

Have you compared your max to another stock max with the same engine? You may not have any acceleration PROBLEMS, but the previous owner may have babied it too much and never got on it a bit..Have you tried injector cleaner? A good tune-up will probably help too..Wish I could tell ya a decent place to get a tune-up in the St. Louis area..I'm a northern Missourian though

actually, the GXE maximas are quick for what they are. on mine if i punch it the whole car will shift back as if it was a rwd trying to pop a wheelie. it should be able to put some good g-forces on you. if it feels sluggish it needs a tune up or there is something wrong. i would just check online or in the phone book for some automotive shops and call around to see what people will do a tune up for, cost wise.

I did a 2002 Civic easy and the driver told me he gave up after about 1 min of me punching the gas, and I need a tune up and muffler. Yay for the 1990 GXE Auto.
