I posted this in the audio & electronics forum but thought that I would post it here just in case.

I have a Kenwood CD player that is about a year and a half old. It is one that has the MASK anti theft device built into it. I have never had any problems with it until today. When I started my car, the faceplate started to flip around as normal but then just quit. I tried to puch the faceplate back up but it just fell down again. I took it out of my dash and checked everything with the wiring. The unit is not showing any signs of power. All of the wires and plugs check out fine. (I tested them with a multimeter.) It seems as if there is an internal power failure. Does anyone have any idea what to do or has anyone had this happen to their Kenwood before? If so, approximately how much did it cost to get it fixed? I have tried to get in touch with Kenwood today but with no luck.

I appreciate any help or feedback that ANYone might be able to give me.

Internal power failure seems unlikely, cuz these things
are fused. Maybe dust something got inside and killed it?
I'm thinking, moisture, dust, you know.
You check the fuse? I know it's obvious
but hey, gotta ask. Umm... I remember when I brought
my buddy's old Kenwood down over to the service station.
His basically stopped working one day... just sort of blacked out. Still trying to get the tape out.
The guy basically told us that if the board is fried,
it's probably cheaper to just buy a new deck.
Anyway, I would still bring it in. I forget if they
charge you to look at the deck or not. If the deck
is more than 3 years old... hey it's time to get a new one.

i HAD THE 1ST SERIES OF THOSE KENWOODS W/ THE AUTOMATICS COVERED FRONT. i HAD IT IN MY 93SENTRA SE-R. THE FRAME AROUND THE FRONT OF THE RADIO WOULD LIFT WHILE THE FRONT FACE PUSHED BACK. THEN A THIN BLACK SLEEVE SLIPPED IN THE FRAME THEN CAME BACK DOWN AND COVERED THE UNIT. i RAN INTO PROBLEMS WHEN IT GOT COLD OR CONSTANT USE THAT THE UNIT LOCKED UP IN MID OPEN/CLOSED MODE....THE PROBLEM IS THAT THERE ARE TOOOOOO MANY PARTS W/ THOSE UNITS...GEARS (MADE FROM PLASTIC-BAD!!) BROKE A COUPLE OF TEETH ON THEM AND IT WON'T MOVE...DON'T TRY TO JAM IT B/C MORE WILL BREAK IN SIDE. i DO BELIVE THERE ARE TWO SEPERATE MOTORS..ONE TO OPERATE THE CASSETTE/CD PLAYER AND ONE TO OPERATE THE OPENING/CLOSING FEATURE....MY UNIT WAS REPLACES W/ YOURS..THE FRONT FACE WOULD MOVE FORWARD,DOWN AND FLIP AROUND AND GO BACK WHEN NOT IN USE...SUPPOSE TO BE BETTER..I GUESS.

i WOULD TRY TO CALL KENWOOD TECH SERV IN THE BACK OF YOUR MANUAL BUT, i THINK THEY HAVE A WEB SITE. hOPE THIS HELPED
