Trunk Not Locking

My trunk latch is not locking first of all. The button is not working, you hear the motor but the latch still doesn't lock. Any Ideas?

ummmm.. do you mean unlatching? you push the button to "unlock" not "lock" the trunk

So it's not staying closed and latched?
It's always open and unlatched?
Just trying to make sure I understand the problem

I can walk up to it and just lift the lid.

try moving the latch with a screw driver. it may have gotten caught in the wrong position.
do it while some one is pushing the release button

I would suggest to use a key instead of pushing the release button.
If key doesn't turn - latch is caught in the wrong position or just frozen.

But in any case I would take out the lock (including latch), as well as links (check the links first - they might be the cause also).

I have had the car for about 3months now and the key never worked. I have always used the release button. Before it stopped latching it used to make a loud click noise when it unlatched now the sound is low and muffled there is no loud unlatching sound.

I think your problem is mechanical.
Open the trunk and remove a cover from the trunk door. You'll be able now to access trunk lock and all mechanical part. Check all the links if they are in tact. Detach link from the lock (be carefull with link plastic locks) and try to open the lock by moving it. If it works - links are the problem. Connect them back and see if it works.
If not, remove lock assembly and fix it (I hope you have some simple tools).

Next step is to fix you trunk lock - see other thread posted 5-7 days ago.

Hope this helps
