I have a 1990 Maxima SE with an automatic tranny. I tried to rebuild it and have been having some problems. I rebuilt it using a Nissan rebuild book from the dealership. The problems I am experiencing are the car will not go into park and it will not shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. One thing I found out was that the valve body in this car is from a Nissan Stanza for some odd reason. The people at the dealership told me it was something they done on certain models. Could the problems I am having be in the valve body? I checked all the shift solenoids and they were reading fine.

are ALL the checkballs back in their proper places?

 

The 90-92 Stanza and the Maxima (VG) used the exact same auto tranny for at least those 2 years- maybe more. I wouldn't think the valve bodies would be any different, in that case.
