Since search is down... more questions
Alrighty, since the search is down....
My problem: Hesitation on "stress", ie, going up a hill, but also on normal driving/normal shifting through the gears. Occurs randomly. VE30DE engine.
1) Knock sensor? Checked mine... was bad. Bypassed w/ 470K resistor... power is back. Strong as snot now, but didn't fix the hesitation. Had the power loss before, power loss=gone. Also... this thread mentions a sub harness. Is that ONLY for cars that are still using their KS? Since I'm bypassing mine now... I'm essentially voiding that component out of the system. So is that even worth looking at, or should I say "bugger off", since I took the cheap way out and bypassed it?
2) Oxygen sensor? I believe mine hasn't been changed @ 150k miles, so I plan to do it anyways. I just want a feel for if this being bad could cause a hesitation or not... so, could it?
3) EGR valve? I have a thread bookmarked Here that mentions it... I'd be willing to check it/change it, if it'd be of use.
Thats the three main things I know I need to check/fix. Well... two things, since I fixed/bypassed the KS.
I know like... all of my posts have been about the hesitation issue, and I thank everyone in advance for any advice. This is just REALLY starting to **** me off now, especially since I can now see the true power of the VE30DE engine, but I HATE
being jerked to hell and back when the SOB hesitates on me mid run.
Open to any suggestions, but really curious on 2 and 3... thanks again.

replacing all the coil packs fixed my hesitation
but i would replace O2 sensor first since its alot cheaper
another posibility is the MAF but i would try the others first
at 150k you should replace all the coils and spark plugs for general mantanence perposes anyways

Well check the EGR valve. It's the cheapest thing to do. Just stick a few fingers up under the diaphragm and see if it moves easy. Then check to see if there is a strong vacuum signal at idle and that it moves when you apply the vacuum to it.
If you can't get more than about 220 miles per a 15gal fill up, your 02 is probably toast.

plugs were done @ like 130k miles, so I don't think its that. I checked all the coil packs according to Chilton's guide, checking resistance I believe. Anyways, I did that, and they were all fine. I'll check the EGR valve next.
MAF=?
O2 sensor is being ordered soon.
Thanks

MAF = Mass Air Flow. Its a sensor thats between the air filter box and throttle body. Speaking of throttle body there is a TPS (Throttle Possition Sensor) on it check to see if the harness connecting to it is tight. It loosened up on mine and gave me a nasty hesitation once that would cut the car off.

okay, cool, I can check that too.
Water in gas is doubtful, since I've had a few tanks in it and its done it, heh
Different brands of gas as well, all high test, but no real change.
Gas mileage seems to be pretty damn low as well, so i'm leaning towards 02 sensor.

you need to check your coils for cracks the best way ive found to do this is remove the rubber boot at the bottom of the coil then start you car with the coil plugged in out of its socket laying on the valve cover/intake manifold and you should see the ark jumping from the spring tip of the coil to the engine then spray the entire coil with windex or equivalent if it starts arking anywhere else besides from the very tip of the coil you have cracks. some you may not even be able to see there so small but there still there and will cause your problem
funny story with the new engine, about 1 month ago i had still not put the hood back on my car and it rained and then i went and drove my car and it was hesitasting like crazy but it had never done thiswith the jdm so i pulled the front coils and they had water on them i just sprayed compressed air down the plug hole and dryed everything out and the hesitation stoped so you should be able to understand what im saying now

I'm thinking the coils are okay, having "tested" them by the chilton method, and already checking them for cracks. That being said, I can easily remove them again and check them... hate to miss such an obvious problem.

I am having a similar problem and I'm also aggrivated. I replaced the knock sensor after using the 470k ohm resistor and the car still runs better w/ the resistor. I am changing the O2 sensor tommorow and need to check the timing. I am also going to order the TSB harness that you referred to. If someone has an answer as to why my car still runs crappy, enlighten me. I think the harness will fix it because it makes the sensor less sensitive I believe. I also replaced spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter, cleaned TB and upper and lower intake. Even w/ the resistor in it still feels like it should be a faster car.

And I'm going to be changing my O2 sensor soon as my VE has 140K on it now and I have no idea if the dang thing has been changed. And since I just put a new CarSound cat on it I don't want to ruin it with a bad O2 sensor.

The Fast And The Furious = TFATF. actually I think 2F2F would be a better example since you can hear the electric blow off valves alot better ![ThumbsUp](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
yeah, boosted as in maybe boom or knock knock ping ping
