My max is cranky

I'm replacing the crank on my 89 SE and was wondering if anyone knew of a reputable place that sells used engine components. I don't want to end up with some piece of crap crank.

I was also wondering if anyone has tried to fill in the grooves in the side of the car where the trim used to be, I was just going to bondo the crap out of it, but if anyone has a suggestion it would be greatly appreciated

p.s. the "search" function is not working for me, so if a similiar thread has been posted I appologize in advance.

the reason (I believe) is because the timing belt cover broke at the bottom and a bunch of dirt, oil, and crud got up in the cog. it actually snapped on the outside of the block, so it isn't a real pain in the ****.

so all you people out there, make sure that timing cover is in good condition.

Same thing happened to my buddy with a 90. He had 209K on it and it started making light moan/grinding. Less than 1K miles later the cog sheared right off and thus the timing belt stopped. He was pulling into a parking space so the engine was only at ~800rpm so I don't there was that much engine damage. However, he junked the car, who wants to put a crank in a 90!

i believe the snout of the crank breaks due to improper timing belt tension. the crank is well built for what it is..but the weak part is the front snout. the cog on the crank that drives the timing belt is pretty strong and good on there also.

bondo does not work well w/ filling thick gaps. you're better off welding a piece of steel on there...grind the tacks and mud the imperfection.

MrGone's VE is the only VE that I'd worry about. That's why he has a spare.

UDP++.

It's always weird driving MrGone's car, then having to go back to mine. Takes me a minute to readjust myself to my car.

Hey matt you need a shopping cart on your site.
Easier to buy multiple things that way

I thought about it. too lazy to actually build the site...
My webhost has all that junk available, I just don't have the desire to mess with it.
I'm to busy playing in the garage and drawing parts in CAD for the fab shops..

yeah, but I'm not even to the point of feeling like updating the site with new mods I'm working on, let alone adding the shopping cart and Paypal stuff!

I was going to work on your site matt, then send you the files, but then I remembered that I get bored with webpages

(I've also been conviencing alot of people lately to buy the flywheels, and to buy them from you. kind of funny now that I think about it. lol)
