Cheap cone air filter...or stock box?
since i cant search im going to have to post this dumb question. my friend got one of those cheap cone, (lamp shade style) air filters off ebay for his max. suppose to be just like the K&N ones. well anyway, there seems to be a decrease in power rather than an increase. does anyone know if those cheaps one do anything at all? should we put the stock airbox back on? thanks.

yes those cheap ones increases air flow, but it will draw in warm air, like internetautomar said. best intake gains is from a cold air intake, where the filter sits near the fender area to draw in cool air. cool air = denser air = bigger combustion = more power

I kept my factory airbox minus the fresh air intake, with a K&N factory replacement filter, but I ran 1.25" flexible sump drain tubing down through the hole in the fenderwell where the moisture drain elbow for the fresh air duct ran, and I then cut a hole in the bottom shroud, and stuck the end of the tubing out of it, and bent it forward and held it up with zip ties so cold air is forced through it and into the factory airbox..it made a noticeable difference on the highway and it helped a little around town...

talk to LittlePiggie about intake stuff. He is a whiz. The best thing to do is CAI.
A lot of people like myself have pop chargers (round K&N style). I just got mine a week ago and I have noticed improvement on mine with the pop charger, but I think my car needed more air coming in with the better flowing y-pipe.

I have Antonthegrey's old hacked up air box on my car, I removed the stock part that goes up to the head light along time ago, then recently removed my resonator.
I'd say get a cheap cone air filter, with our cars being so friendly to them, I dont see why not... unless your poor like me
