Gas Mileage
#42
i don't think that will hurt/improve gas milage. the advanced timing just changes when the air/fuel mixture is ignited. so technically the same amount of fuel is sprayed in, just ignited at different time. (correct me if i'm wrong though)

yes but Im pretty sure it burns it more efficiantly, I know my milage went up when I did it.

that was not at the same time you installed the flywheel right?
eitherway, cool, maybe i'll experiment with mine. (probably not though )

no I did the timing a few weeks ago, and the engine and the mods in august.
and yeah I would say another 5-10 miles pertank at leaat but its def. worth
doing if you run 93 anyway since your timing may all ready be retared a bit I
think D-sta's was a few degrees and Izzy's was mabey 1 degree mine was at 12 degrees but thats because the crankshaft sensor was swapped and the timing
not rechecked. But what did make the biggest diff, was the breather hose for
the gas tank, I would suggest everyone taking a look at theirs mine was rotted
bad, even if your not leaking fuel it may still be cause bad milage

wow, mine is bad and i get 14mpg.all stop and go in frisco. it's still better than the rx7-10mpg or less. suck fuel like crazy on idle, crusing or when trying to torque to reach upper rpm where it's fuel efficent, then gotta stop for traffic.

its like $20 from nissan you are losing that much in gas milage in a month probably, just buy the hose

This is driving me crazy. I am going to try the seafoam or steam cleaning this weekend. Any other help would be great.
Thanks for all the info so far.

It's the FIRST thing to look at if your filters are fresh and you don't feel a miss.
The Automarket guy on here has NTK's for about $60 shipped. But any 3rd gen is now going to be in that mileage area for the O2 sensor to fail.
Injectors couls also be leaky or have a bad spray pattern, but if the "tune ups in a jar" don't help then you 'd have to replace them. THAT's not cheap.
Good luck!
My first three tanks of gas after buying the car were all highway and I was able to get more the 450 miles for each one. Around town I usually get about 250 mpt. I have a new O2 sensor to put in if it isn't snowing this weekend!

Check your flex pipe in your y-pipe for holes. If you have holes in there it will suck air in and the O2 sensor will think that your exhaust is too lean and therefore tell the ECU to pump more fuel into the engine thus bad gas mileage.

Hey, can you give me a little more info on the breather hose? Where is it located? Where is the easiest place to check the hose for cracks????

Weird, how people mpg is so high when brand new i think it's like 19/25 mpg. oh 37 dollar hose, but removal of gas tank, i'm not incline to mess with old rusty every thing, and mech wants 300 for it and RUSTY is just too rusty for a new $337 hose.

Can you give me a little more details on where its located or the best place to inspect the hose?

Umm if you follow the filler hose to the tank closer to the tank youll see another rubber hose (about 3/4" dia.) if the hose looks all cracked and dingy then it needs to be replaced, you can also start the car and see if you smeel gas by there. I can see if I can take a pic for you, let me go out to the car and see. brb
