Odd. This morning. Pull out of the garage

in reverse. Fine. Put the car in neutral with the clutch pressed. Fine. Let off the clutch(still in neutral) and hear a "bang" sound from the tranny. Can't feel anything but hear the bang. Car drives fine. But I wonder wtf that was. I know the weather is colder now(40s) and my hydraulic fluid and gear oil don't like the cold as much. I think the tranny was just slightly "in gear" and when I let the clutch out it hit the gear/synchro totally out of gear. ?

http://www.launch2k.com/mrgone/images/pics/IMG_3622.jpg ?

na, I'd still like to know how that happened though.

seems kind of wierd my guess is if it did hit something, it was probably syncro (or something). I'm not sure though .

Maybe time to put an ACT/Fidanza on and flush the clutch line?

I have had this happen to me on occasion when I don't quite push the clutch down far enough and put it into neutral (or what seems to be neutral). Then I let out the clutch and hear this loudish dull "bang" or "thud" noise but I also get a minor jolt from it.... or this could just be me jumping out of my seat because this scares the HELL out of me. Car doesn't stall or anything.

I'm not sure how it can be that I can get the shift lever into neutral and it seems okay, but it's like it's still partially in gear or something like you said. I get the feeling it's slop in my shifter bushings or something because I have trouble shifting once in a while. It also doesn't help my clutch is pretty stiff for some reason and engagement is closer to the floor than I think it should be...

I think it's the cold weather Bmang. When I switch over to my Fidanza and ACT, Amsoil is going into the tranny as well as new output shaft seals.

whats best is when you have it in gear when you park it... push in the clutch to start it, keep it in gear, then release the clutch.

and the car does not stall............................................. ...

1. your redline does NOT have a limited slip additive in it.
2. Amsoil > Redline

maybe its the throwout bearing. maybe its possibly shrinking enough to pinch the input shaft to where it kind of sticks but the pressure plate slams it back. heck if i really know but that's just one of my guesses since it happens after you let the clutch pedal out. i don't really see any way for it to be stuck in gear when you can move it around in neutral.

now what i want to know is why the tranny won't go into gear when the front end is jacked up. its happened to me many times and i can't figure out why it does that. i don't see how it couldn't go into gear when everything is mechanically engaged... any ideas anyone? (not trying to hijack your thread Jeff, just adding to the tranny questions lol)

Your car also has house paint on the front bumper.

And a weird interior...

Btw, Jeff, my car hasn't made that noise after reading your described behavior. However, sometimes it won't fully go into gear. Ie, clutch in, 1st gear, clutch out, shifter pops back into neutral. I haven't had any problems since I put the redline in my tranny.
