keyless entry systems

I am getting tired of fighting my door locks and am considering getting one of the inexpensive keyless entry systems on ebay. Has anyone installed one of these into a 94 SE? Any pointers? I tried re-soldering the lock timer but it did not help. I took apart the drivers side door and looked over everything. My guess is that the problem is the actuator but figure a keyless entry would be a cheaper and more useful fix. By the way I re-soldering my clock and it works again!! Thanks

take it from someone who got ripped off...dont buy one off ebay. i bought the 2004 crimestopper. theres so many wires and confusing instructions its not worth it. id recommend having a local security shop put the keyless system in. i didnt even end up putting mine in. not worth the time and effort to me. hope this helps. late.

I understand you need just a keyless entry system - then don't buy a complete alarm system. There are many keyless entry systems available on the market for less $$$ and they are easy to install.
JTI A9 is a good example.

Look in the GD forum - internetautomar is having a GD w/some pretty good prices for keyless entry/remote start units... I've heard a bunch of people say you can install them yourself - I'm gonna tackle a remote start/alarm install over Christmas, we'll see how that goes.
Oh, and you need your door lock timer to work correctly, from what I've heard. Just pay Matt or Craig to do it for ya!

I got a Crimestopper 845-RKE from Ebay for about 40 shipped. Install went just fine with my 92GXE, but now I'm having some arming issues with my SE. But it's nothing that can't be fixed. The trunk pop is a pain since the wire is buried so far into the kick panel. Just use the wiring diagram on Craig's site. It's right on the money.

Remote start is an easy install, That's for sure.
Keyless won't be much harder (possibly simpler if done by itself)
Just be sure that you have all the tools you'll need handy.
I just did remote start on a 98 camry tonight and it took me about 2 hrs, with about 1/2 hour spent trying to figure out where to hide the box!
It was a crimestopper RS900 VI
BTW the link for my "Group deal" is

BTW I have other units available too

I forgot to mention - if driver's door actuator is bad, no alarm / keyless entry system will fix it because they ALL require actuators aleady in place and functioning.

yes, like rrrfoma said, keyless entry wont solve your problem
it'll try to unlock/lock the doors but still have to go through the same actuator unless you wanted to completely replace the locking system

keyless entry isn't that bad to install if you have some patience and have wire colors for where to look to get started (my site or many other sites have them). I've installed plenty of remote start/alarms/keyless entry and am very happy with crimestopper products. If you're somewhere near Atlanta, I could probably help you out.

I just want to double check what I said earlier (not to second guess what you told me Craig!)...
I understand that the actuators need to be working properly, that's a given... But does the door lock timer need to be functioning correctly in order for the alarm/keyless to work?

I would think so since you will be tapping those wires for the lock/unlock.

yup, for all maximas that have a door lock timer (92-94, maybe 91; I've heard different things about that year), the timer controls the power door locks
if it's not working then the door locks wont work and for the keyless entry, you'll just be sending a signal to the timer but it still can't do anything if it's not working

I am pretty sure my door lock timer is working OK. The “lock/unlock all” button on the doors console works fine all the time. Isn't this what the keyless remote system will be hooking into? Also I did re-solder it with no change in orperation.

My problem is unlocking with the key when its cold outside, like it is now here in CT. Occasionally the locks fight back and immediately re-lock the doors. I need to turn and hold the key as I am pulling up on the door handle. Once inside I can unlock all the doors using the door console button. My guess was that it was the drivers’ side door actuator so I took it apart and found both electronics and mechanical components so its not as simple as re-soldering but I am not confident enough in my diagnostic skills to replace it. I am considering warming it up with a heat gun to see if the problem goes away. This would at least isolate the problem. (If it turns out to be the actuator does anyone have one for sale?) I have seen many complaints about this issue but no solutions. Let me know if anyone has any ideas, as I would like to fix this.

Giving the above description do you think that a keyless remote system would help my problem?

Disconnect the battery and try to lock/unlock DS door with a key.
This is the way to check if it is a mechanical problem with links from door lock.
But from what you've described - actuators are working just fine
Go ahead and install a keyless entry system.

door lock timer isn't the problem for all door lock troubles but it is pretty common

usually it starts with the power door locking stopping working occasionally and then will stop working all together
the fighting of door locks is another issue, but I'm not sure the answer to that

I am thinking about getting one of the units on ebay such as the Crimestopper 865-RKE. I found the manual online and have a couple of questions for you guys.

Will I need to buy additional relays or parts to get either the door unlock or the trunk unlock to work? The manual suggests that I would need an additional relay for the trunk release.

The manual discusses different systems such as negative trigger and positive trigger. Which one applies to the Maxima?

Are there any sites online that give instructions pertaining to a Maxima on how to wire in a keyless system? (Crimestopper or any other brand). I found the write up on fixing the clock to be a tremendous help!

I've installed a 865RKE before and it's pretty straightforward

you will need a relay to get the trunk to work since it gives a negative signal and you need a positive one

maxima uses negative trigger

check my site www.geocities.com/craigbrace for wiring info
