locks preventing door from closing/latching?

so i was at the car wash getting the car wax and other stuff out of the passenger side door. after i got all my stuff out, i press down on the lock to lock the door, closed it and it bounced back open. i was thinking wtf?! took me 15 minutes messing with the lock to get it to latch. can the locking mechanism prevent the door from latching? doesn't make sense to me. any input would help.

thanks

I don't know for sure if this is directly related, but I have noticed that if the key is in the ignition and you are outside of the car with the door open then the locks will bounce back open to prevent you from locking your keys in the car.

Your problem may be related to this feature.

I've had problems with my power locks locking themselves and becoming hard to open (particularly in cold weather). Mechanic said it was a wiring sniggle... never fixed.

yeah recently ive done what kingcarnage has done, just to see if i can lock the car and keep it running, but a while ago, after my car had been messing up a lot, after overheating a lot, i noticed if i locked it and shut the door it would pop open, but it just kinda fixed itself, good luck finding the answer

That's interesting, that they're supposed to stay open... My have been acting up lately (automatically locking whenever I shut the door), and they locked when I got out of the car w/it running the other day... Thank god for keyless entry keypad!

well it happened again when coming home from downtown. dropped my friend off, he closed the door and it won't latch. had to tie that shoulder belt onto the door handle to keep the door closed on my way home. messed with the lock some more and it finally latched normally.

You need to lube the latch mechanism itself.
The part that actually catchs the door frame.
It's not a very unusual problem usually fixed by a screwdriver and some lube

No problem.
My friends parents were driving around with both doors held closed by rope because the latches were stuck.
They happened to have been driving by my place while I was outside and asked me to help. So I got my screwdriver pulled on the door handle (to release the latch mech) and Viola' their doors worked again.
I also told them to stop by the shop on monday to get em lubed
