1992 Maxima Fuel Economy

i just got the '92 max from my grandma
after driving it around a little, i find that it has really bad fuel economy...worse than our caravan!

last time i calculated it was at 6.7-7.5 KM/Litre (from 13-15L/100KM). i dunno what the conversion to MPG is..but it is really bad when i compared it to the 2k4 model that can do 11L/100KM. and i go easy on the gas and everything to try and increase fuel economy but nothing much helps.

so my question is to other 3rd gen owners, is my fuel economy typical? or is something wrong?
thnx

Go to the autostore and pick up a Hayes automanual book. Then check out the first few pages on FAQ. It'll tell you what might have caused the problems. There are tons of possibilities to this issue, you're better off consulting that book.

This is what I get:
400-500km/tank - street driving
600-700km/tank - highway

yeah, do what bvtran said and buy a service manual of some kind..

It sounds like clogged air filter/fuel filter or dirty injectors to me.. read the book, if you still don't know, check back..it may require a new fuel filter, air filter, and a bottle of injector cleaner..none are very expensive..It would be MY reccomendation to buy a conical K&N filter buy/build an adaptor and take the factory air box out and use the pop charger setup..then you have the same filter you can use for a CAI or somthing..or you could go pay $5 US and buy a paper filter for it until you feel more comfortable modding your car..
