cruise control issues

ok so the cruise control has not worked for about oh 3 years now and im tired of it being broken siince school is a good 30 to 45 min commute each way. So my brother and i hit up the junk yard and got a new ascd vaccum motor and put it in, still no go. i know that that one could just be bad too. So i was wondering if anyone knows a way to see if it is getting power or not. also does anyone jknow what each colored wire means. finally any ideas. we can hear the relay when we hit the buttom. but NO lights come on at all. Thanks.

If the actuator was bad then the cruise light would come on and go off immediately. Sometimes the wires below the cruise button inside the steering are loose and need to be wiggled a bit.

Another problem might be the brake cancel switch behind the brake pedal , or if u have a 5-speed, then the switch behind the clutch could be bad.

try bypassing the pedal swithces by diconnecting the harness and running a wire to join both the terminals on the cancel switch and put a piece of tape on it to keep it there...see if that helps a bit.

lastly, the CC computer could be bad too.

Well, mine wasn't working for about that long and it turned out to be the ASCD servo. Quick 'parts run' on Nozama's "extra" car solved my problem.

The Automatic Speed Control Device (ASCD) servo sits on the same bracket (or more specific, right beneath) as the cruise control actuator. If you've got an SE, it'll be on the passenger side of the engine bay, bolted to the wheel well 'hump'. It should have a small vacuum line and a wiring harness attached to it.

Also, do what GRNMAXDMON said and check the cruise control switch as well.

(and yeah, Dave... let's go on a run!)
