What is the normal Cruising RPMs?
I have a 93 se 5spd that I just got. I took it on the highway and noticed that the rpms at cruising speed 120km/h was around 3000rpm. I talked to a friend about it who has a gxe and he says he does 100km/h (60mph) at 2000rpm. So I'm wondering if this is normal, and if it isn't, does anyone know what it could be and how to fix it?
This has been buggin me for a while

No i believe that 2695rpm should be 65mph anyone who has there speedo apart can tell u i dont remember exactly but when i had my speedo apart i could see that it said the conversion on it I think it was 2695rpm = 65mph but not too sure , It says it on the actuall speedo around the outside but i u cant see it unless u have it apart . But at around 70 mph 3000 isnt that high are engines are designed to run hot and at higher rpms.

ya after further expection i agree im at around 2500 at 70mph however if i disengage my OD then it rises to around 3100 so i would check to make sure that ur OD is engaged because it should be around 2500 - 2600 as Fosgate Fan said

autos have taller gears than 5spds, plus a locking torque converter.
I forget what mines at, but I normally do about 85 on the way to school, I think its about 3300rpm.
(thats funny, I do 85 on the way to school. maybe I should slow down?

the funny thing is i'm more alert on my way to school, then sleepy on my way home, ![Rolling on floor laughing](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif)
plus sometimes I hit 105 on the on ramp just because I like to run the gears, the crappy part is having to slow down because the car just wants to keep climbing

What gear u hit 105 in , I know that with my auto i hit 115 (well on the speedo prolly actually only 107) it shifts into another gear and drop the tach to 4000 and climbs back to 6 and barries the speedo at 125 at around 5,000 5,100 so i figure a 90 auto top speed is around 130 135 , Anyway what gear is it sroping into at 107 i can count it going threw 4 before it hits that gear my buddy said its the OD gear always wonderded what gear that was

I dont remember what gear I was in, I'm tempted to say 3rd, maybe forth? Kind of sad that I dont know.
I can tell you that in my old 93 SE Auto I hit 115mph with (I think i was around 5000-5500rpm) in 3rd gear, so I had pleanty to go.
Overdrive is simply 4th gear. In my auto I could take first gear to ~40mph, second gear to ~80mph, and never reached the top of 3rd.
Automatics have taller gears that 5spds, so they can technically have a higher top speed.

just curious.
Also Antonthegrey has a 145mph speedo in his car and he's topped it out, he has an 89 5spd. Also the gauges arent too accurate that high, so if you want a true reading get a or maybe a Apexi RSM (anyone know if thats accurate?)
