just lean the seat back farther like the rest of the pimps out there...

this is one of those questions that "if you have to ask, you probably shouldn't be doing it" type of deal.
look at the seat brackets and you tell me if you can do it. access to a welder is the first step of many.

I dont think you have much to play with maybe 1/2-1" but not much more than that without a whole lot of work (notching the floor board and such). Are you really tall or something? I wouldnt want to sit any lower or you might have sight problems.

why would you do this anyway? if i were you, i wouldnt be messing around with the seating brackets. i dont think they were designed to be cut and re-welded.

if you were to get in an accident, your seat coming apart at those welds would be the last thing you wanted. why risk it?

i wouldn't mind my seats being lower. sometimes i feel like i'm on top of the car. i'd like the seats to be lower in the car so i feel like i'm inside the car. kind of like a sports car feel if you've ever been in one.

a properly angled gangsta lean has been dyno proven to add 15hp...better weight distribution across the seat cushion and mad aerodynamics yo!

MT- try driving around in a minivan for a day, you'll quickly realize how low these seats really are

oh i know how that is. my parents have a chevy express... much much bigger than a minivan lol. what's nice about our seats, however, is you can lower them a little bit (at least i can on mine). still not quite low enough for me though.

kingrye,
If you feel the need to lower your seats, get a nice rice car like a Honda or something...

MT, excuse me for pointing out the obvious, Maxima's aren't sports cars - irrespective of the US marketing campaign of the day (4DSC). In New Zealand Max's are known as "affordable luxury cars" - more suited to the captains of industry and grandfathers who don't want to drive Aussie crapmobiles! We've finally got the latest generation & finally it might actually earns its title as a sports-sedan!
You wanna sports car? buy a sports car.

(Oh yeah, I'm trying to cut down on coffee...)

the maxima is sporty enough for me. what i really want to accomplish is not feeling like i'm on top of the car and feel like i'm in the car to get the feeling of a sports car. besides, with the way i sit in the car i only have about an inch or two of space between my head and the roof and i'm only 5'9".

What if you bought some of those hot lookin racing seats, they might drop you down some. I was thinking about those too cause I can touch my roof with my head too!

i was thinking of just redoing the stock seats. those racing seats are hella expensive and i'm a cheap *** lol. what i was planning on doing is try to find some of that memory foam stuff and shape it how i want then re-upholster the seats with some good looking cloth. may be more work than i'm up to doing but i might try to see how it will work out. i should be able to shape the foam for the lower part of the seat to where i'm sitting lower.

1) I also don't think cutting and welding the stock brackets is a good idea, safety-wise. I haven't looked at them to see even how feasible it is.
2) I don't really think Maxs have a "family car" looking interior - at least compared to my last winter car. Granted, it's a big four-door and isn't as cozy as my Mustang, but it's not like a Town Car or something. IMHO
3) Racing seats can be fairly inexpensive and are not ricer seats - unless you get some cheapo $25/ea seats from eBay or something that have a big "R" or something on them. I've got a set of black Corbeaus in my Stang - they look and feel a lot better than stock, and they're more functional (side bolsters and such).
4) Don't get bent out of shape about people's opinions on here. Some people will tell you you're an idiot for whatever you're thinking, and some will agree with you...take everything anyone says w/a grain of salt...

I got 'em used - including the brackets (I had to order those new from Corbeau), they were $615 shipped for the pair.

King,

I've done a bit of welding [taken classes]. What kind of welder is it? Oxy/Acyt, MIG, TIG?

The first thing I thought when I read your post is safety. There is a difference being able to weld two pieces of metal together and welding to obtain proper fusion and penetration for the joint to sustain hundreds of pounds of force generated during heavy braking, or in a collision.

If you have a lot of welding experience and know how to setup joints safely, then go for it.

Maybe its just me, but I noticed that in my 94 SE Cloth interior, the seats are about 3 inches lower and set back and are more relaxed compared to my 92 SE leather (full power) seats.

on top of that you have to be careful when welding inside the car as they can catch fire very quickly.

With or without a sunroof? That may have something to do with the overall feeling of feeling "lower" inside the car because the sunroof chops a good inch or so off the available headroom (making you feel taller and the seat higher).

Btw, for those who want better seats: buy better seats tahn what you have. You will not be happy if you just try and mod your seats if you do not like them at all to start with. Plus seats are key in the safety portion of your car. Most people seem to ignore that when modding their vehicle.

Plus, for the guy who said he didn't like the feel of his car: buy a different car! That'll fix it.

Good point raised here - safety. Many features of seat design are their for passive safety: anti-submarining for one stops you from sliding out from under the seatbelt, having the seat a certain height from the floor ensures proper blood flow to legs & body and keeps leg bent so if you do hit something, you're more likely to break shin or thigh bone & not completely bust up the knee.
Rather than cut & shut the mounting legs, replace with semi-racing seats to get a little more headroom (even an inch is better than nothing).
I've got a sunroof, am 5'10" & don't feel cramped - even if the sliding cover is closed.
Understand about wanting to feel like a sports car, has plenty of power although the "luxury cruiser" side of the car appeals because it's like a "sleeper" (what the British call a Q-car). My last car was a NX Coupe (JDM of NX1600 except it was stinking 1.5 carburetor not 1.6 injected), and with the targa tops & low seats, "felt" like a sports car but had no power!

Still don't like the rice look - if you can barely see over the top of the dash, why bother???

davebond007, both have sunroofs. Only difference is, one has about 100k more miles on it so the seats coould be a little worn out, but to me their way more comfortable.
