Driver's Door Hinge Problem
Driver's Door Hinge Problem
I hae a 91 GXE. It appears that the bushings in the hinge for the driver's door are worn such that the door hits the vertical column when closing. Is there an easy fix for this? THX, Alan
sure.. replace the hinges. they're about $12 each from the dealer.
you have to pull the driver's side fender to get tot he bolts, but it's not that bad. about 12 small screws and the fender comes off... then just leave the door closed and replace one hinge at a time (so you don't let the door flop loose on that end).
Then you just need to put some shims around the door or have a helper hold the door in place so you can realign it... just loosen the bolts on the hinge, move the door a bit, then tighten them. do that unitl the door closes properly and you're done (except for putting the fender back on)
it's probably a 2-3 hour job for a first-timer, but doesn't require anything fancy for tools.. just 10,12,14mm sockets and wrenches I think.
