Springs and Shocks
OK, I've been looking at some lowering springs and ran into a pretty good buy on Ebay. Tell me what you guys think about these springs and shocks.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33582
I know the're not the Eibachs I would like to go with, but I'm kinda on a budget with a baby on the way. I'm just wondering if this would be worth it and if I'm going to get alot better handling. I rode with a friend of mine the other day in his 240sx and his stock handling is sooooo much better than my suspension, I haven't been able to get it off my mine.
Also, would you guys suggest getting new rotors before lowering springs? My rotors have about 165k on them, but they don't look to be in really bad shape. The pads were replaced in Feb. Sorry, for all the newbie questions, but I'm trying to get some opinions from you guys. Thanks

I am not positive, but I think Spipedong90 has the same set up on his car. You should ask him how he likes it. I think it looks good with his 17" wheels (I've seen it in person, too).
It looks to me like a good way to lower your car and improve handling while trying to stay in a budget. In other words, it's going to be better than stock, but probably not as good as Eibach/KYBs or something like that.
Are your rotors warped? If so, they might need to be turned or replaced. It would also depend on their thickness. Rotors can only be turned so many times before they need to be replaced. A lot of miles on your car doesn't always mean you need to replace rotors. If most of it is freeway miles, you are probably good. It really depends on if they are close to or below the minimum thickness.

I replaced my front rotors and pads about 1000 miles ago and its a noticeable difference from what I had before, but not enough to warrant recommending before suspension upgrades. You'll definitely notice a much better feel to your car with shocks & springs, than you will with brake rotors. If your pads are fine, then I'd say leave them. I only replaced mine cause my pads were toast and my rotors were cracked and scored pretty badly.

Spipedong90 has ST springs and ST struts.
I dont know too much about springs, I mainly just bought the Eibachs because they have the least drop (and apparently the stiffest ride too). I've riden in Spipe's car, and it's nice. There were 3 of us in it too.

Grant, I've got those struts, but paired with Sprint springs. My handling improved 100% once I popped those puppies on. But that could also be because I put on an FSTB at the same time... I wish they had that deal back in the summer when I was REALLY looking for them. Those struts (from what the company told me) are made by the same company that makes KYB, and it's basically their 'budget' brand.
Can't tell you anything about the springs, though
As for your rotors, Chris probably hit that on the head. Mileage isn't going to be the determining factor moreso than the thickness of the rotor.

Yes, I have the ST's and ST's. If I were to do it again, I would get a smaller drop, and stiffer struts. I was going to start auto-X but I cant even take an intersection at 15mph without scraping the **** out of my fender wells, let alone an SCCA course.

Man, that sucks. Well thats not what I was lookinf for if you can even take turns at 15mph. Do your think it is because of the 2 inch drop or because of the struts?

To install the Konis when they are already mounted in the struts is the same as any other shock/strut.
Trick is to know how to install them into the strut. The rears are exactly the same as any other strut. The fronts are a little bit harder but still easy.
The fronts are just struts like rears but the oem shocks aren't made to be rebuildable. so you have to cut open the top of the strut to insert the new shock and drill a hole at the bottom to thread a bolt into the bottom of the strut. But are pretty easy procedures.

This guy made a special tool to tighten the rears but I just used a pipe wrench.
I also used a sawzall to cut the top of the strut. Much faster.![Smilie](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Nubiannupe, I just wanted to clarify. You have this exact setup, right?
And you don't have any problems with rubbing?

Sprint springs lower the car a good amount. Count on needing at least some camber bolts to correct the camber. If you don't all that $ saved on this setup will be shredding itself off the tires.
I didn't know ST made shocks.

Nope... no rubbing at all w/ 215/45/17's or the factory 15's. And yeah, Jeff is right - Sprints drop the car down a LOT!! That's my only downside to this combo, is that there are a lot of places I used to be able to drive that I can't anymore.
I had to get the suspension shop put together some kind of camber bolts so I wouldn't be going thru tires..
