I keep getting spanked!!!!
#1
My friend has a stock 1996 GXE 5sp and everytime we race he spanks my a$$. In first it's neck & neck but when we both shift in 2nd, he's gone. I've driven his car and when I shift it in 2nd, his car pulls and doesn't stop, mine will pull but it takes a while:it'll pull harder as the rpms go up. That's where I lose him, in 2nd, he pulls and I have to wait till I get to top of 2nd for the car to pull hard.
When I'm at 60mph he has 2 cars on me easily.
We're both bone stock.
Should I get beaten this bad by a 4th gen or is this normal?

Re: Re: Re: damn!!!
Dude, don't be a moron. Dan could have responded better but you understood what he meant right?
The VQ has 15 more ftlbs. torque than you do. What are you expecting? But do the Y,intake and exhaust, then you will be able to hang or beat him. Plain as that.

There's a good chance that you need a tune up or your VTC assemblies are acting up. God help you if you have a Nissan Key value clutch kit. If you can't drive then that will make a big difference also.

I just think that even though his car is mroe recent, he shouldn't beat me at that extent. Any of you guys ever race a forth gen with the two cars being bone stock??

What exacly is a Nissan Key value clutch kit??
I know that the people I bought it from had the clutch changed on it and they always had it dealer serviced.
Sometimes when I run my car hard, when I go over 4000 rpms, the tranny starts to whistle(not really a whistle but you get the point) then I shift and then when that gear reaches 4000rpms it whistles also, and so on.
What could this be?

You car is a bit heavier than the 96 Maxima
Here are some weight specifications that could be contributing to you being slower than your friend
1993 Maxima specifications
Automatic transmission= 3201 lbs
1996 Maxima GXE specifications
Manual transmission= 3001 lbs

are you the original owner on the 93? do u know the maintence on the car? u know the car has been well taken care of?
stock for stock the 4th gen will crawl past you. giving that your car prob have more miles and age on it and VTC problems the newer 4th gen will walk you...simple as that.
you asked a question..we don't have to answer them..no one is here decidated to this BBS 24/7 to answer your questions.

You should lose...
The 4th gens are lighter have more lowend-midrange torque. Like Dan and Jeff said maybe you have VTC problems. If you want to run with a VQ get the intake, Y pipe and ECU. Otherwise you'll never be able to beat one with an equal driver.

truth hurts enh?
And you say I have a bad attitude..... [/I][/QUOTE]

No offense guys... but if you really want to spank him... just buy a faster car. You can pick up an RX-7 Turbo (2nd gen) for ~$4k, put $2k in mods on it an you'll have 250 - 260 hp (@the motor) and your car will weigh in at ~2800lbs. I'm sure you could also do a 300ZX of the same year range for similar price / performance. (if you want to stay Nissan) MUCH faster than even the latest and greatest Maxima.
Just an idea...

yup can't beat the rotary hp to displacement ratio...only prob is most of the motors in the older RX7s are pretty shot. bad/worn apex seals and etc...rebuild necessary but not everyone knows how to work on a rotary also.
