Tranny problem!!!

I blew my transmission in my '94 GXE. My tranny guy wants $2000-$2500 to rebuild it. I saw a remanufactured tranny online for $825 but it will still be plus the 360 to ship it and $550 to have it installed. I need serious help. I'm a poor college student with not much money. Anybody knows where I can get a used Tranny for a good price? Also where can i go to get the job done at a fair price in my area.

If you are mechanically inclined its really not that hard. A Haynes or Chiltons manual can walk you through it, but you really need another person to help with the tranny as its pretty heavy. If you are not mechanically inclined...DON'T TRY THIS ON YOUR OWN!!!!!! You might be able to find a shade tree mechanic to put on in for 2-300 dollars.

Good Luck! Joe

yes, puttin a tranny in by yourself is definatly a task...I had such a hard time w/ mine, but I finally got it in :-P $hit, I didn't even think I could do it on my own, I just went at it one day, had it out that night and back together in another day. A lot easier than i figured. GOOD LUCK!!

I'm goin to be honest, It's a b**ch to put a tranny on yourself. I did mine with my stepdad and a friend took me 2 days, lots of work and you must have lots of patients. I would pay a mechanic the money. If your goin to do it, you will need a 3ton hydo jack some braker bars and the right tools. So if your goin to do it good luck.
