Could someone tell me if I got a serious tranny problem? Yesterday while driving in the snow I noticed that my car doesn't shift anymore, like it's stuck in a single gear(seems like it's stuck in a 4th or something).
Also what's the deal with the power/comfort switch?...(put key in ingition and "P" light blinks for about 18 times). I read about this somewhere before but can't remember where and what that meant?

Reverse still works and...oh yeah, it might have been due to the fact that I was "rocking the car back and forth" between drive and reverse to get out of the snow. Not sure if that may have effected it. Has anyone had this happen to them? If so what was the fix? New tranny? How much?....I knew I should have changed the tranny fluid over the winter break!

Doesn't sound too good......

I think you could have messed ot up doing that "manuever" to free your car from the snow! the car is in "safe mode" which can mean one of three things(from my experience):
1. tranny is about to die out on you
2. tranny is just cold and needs time to warm up
3. tranny is just screwed up from your attempt to "rock" the car out of the snow

if its #1 than the tranny will continue to remain in "safe mode"(stuck in 3rd gear) than time to get a new one; if its #2 then just turn off the car wait 30seconds, turn back on and everything should be fine; if #3 than just read what happens for #1.

rebuilt tranny will be about $1500-2000+/-; new tranny will range from $2500-$4000, if your tranny really is gone go with a rebuild and get a good warranty and add on a cooler and you should be okay!

Thanks for the tips! The same night I realized there was something wrong w/the tranny, I had my friend take it out for a drive to see if it reset itself because he needed a car and it did. I think the problem u were describing was #1 or #3...safe mode. And yes I did by a Hayden tranny cooler on Mon but haven't had the time to install it with all this snow around. Thanks!
