Speed Sensor
Hello,
My speedometer and ordometer have stopped working, All i've been told is that iit is my speed sensor. Does anyone have apic or anything on where this is? Does it cost a lot to replace and could I do it my self? Does anyone else think it is something else?

most likely that's the case.
it's an easy DIY fix. part is about $60 from a dealer IIRC. I suggest buying a service manual for the locations and other useful info that you'll need later. it will answer many, MANY questions for you.

its located on the back of the transmission closer to the engine it has 1 electrical connector coming out of it and it has one 10mm bolt holding it in and it will be stuck in there pretty good so get some pliers, a hammer and a screw driver and try twisting/beating it out

I ordered my from Rockauto.com for around $60.00 two months ago. The local dealer wanted $110. It's simple to replaced. I have pictures of the location if you needed.
YES. Replaced the speed sensor also fixed my Cruse control beside the two problem you described.

don't replace it yet until you know for sure it is broke! me and my uncle had the same problem and fixed it by taking the sensor out pressing the rubber cap back in tightly and putting it back. Its kinda a pain to get out but once you get it out, its easy to fix..

Yes i would like the pictures if you have them. Thank You. Alright so i've heard it's easy that good i'll try to push it back in and try that and if it doesn'twork i'll replace it. Umm icepick what are you talking about it's behind the glove compartment?

no, you shouldn't have to move anything. best i can say is, look where the oil filter is. it's below that area. i'm not sure if it's different on an automatic. there's a small L-shaped bracket with a 10mm bolt holding it in. you'll need like an 18" extension with ratchet to remove the bolt. then unplug the harness and twist the sensor out of place. i'll try to take a picture tomorrow if i can remember.

Oh okay thank you for taking the time on this...... i should be able to find it now.........I hope just taking it apart and putting it back in (weird) will work. I doubt it but i dont feel like spending $65 for a new one

You shouldn't have to take it apart.
A common problem that people have (which i did as well as my uncle) with the speed sensor is that the thing fills with tranny oil so somehow and the rubber cap gets pushed out. When it gets pushed out a little, that causes it to not work properly. I guess a simple and easy way to tell if its an easy fix is to just look at the rubber cap. If it sits perfectly flush (doesn't stick up at all) it might be broken. If it ISN'T flush, then try to just press it in and give it a try. I'd say 9 times out of 10, thats the problem.
