Mechanics Pricing?
Mechanics Pricing?
Hey the manifold on my sisters car has a crack in it so its being replaced the mechanic is charging 250.00 for the manifold.. and then one of her ball joint barrings on her front wheel is broken.. i had noticed it had been driving funny. I wheel felt like it was gonna fall off. I think the total amount with labor and parts for the manifold and the ball joint is going 552.00 how bad is this price?? does anyone know if it is reasonable? it seems like a lot of money to put into an old car? Just wondering is my mechanics pricing is out of wack? thanks
ANywayz... WE JUST PICKED UP THE CAR THIS WEEK AND THE TOTAL WAS 730.00
SOME OF THE SCREWS HAD BUSTED when he was trying to put the manifold in. Does his pricing sound reasonable.. if not.. does anyone know of some good mechanics that they can recommed in the chicago area?
thanks!!

IF he replaced all the manifold studs when he replaced the manifold, then that job is about right.
the manifold itself runs $250 or so from a dealer, then the studs and gaskets run another $50 per side..
labor is 3-4 hours for it, so expect to pay easily $500 or so to replace the manifold and studs.
ball joint is about $50-60 from a dealer (or 40 from parts store), and labor on is it about an hour... Then you'll need to get an alignment (add $40)
soooo, $730 for all that sounds about right, unfortunately.
