loss of power at 2200 to 2700 rpms

i have a ve, and i've noticed that from about 2200 to 2700 rpms my car just doesnt feel like it has any power. through the rest of the rpms it pulls pretty strong, but in just those rpms it feels like it has significantly less power. any ideas what the problem could be. i don't have the vtc's grounded out, they don't make a whole lot of noise, i think they were repaired once since the car has about 160k on it, and i have a pretty loud exhaust leak from the manifold (maybe it has to do with the jetting, i really don't know). any help would be appreciated.

It's always nice to know what car you have. I assume you have an automatic. Which is much more sensitive in any performance loss for low end power. My first guesses would be a simple tune up. Replace plugs, all filters, and check continuity of injectors, coil packs, and knock sensor. Most likely, you've never replaced you knock sensor. The "knock zone" if from 2200 to 4000 rpm... that is where the VE "listens" for pinging. When the knock sensor is going bad, it THINKS it hears knocking, but it's just going dead.

Replace your knock sensor if you have more than 100K miles. Replace your coolant temp sensor. Some people clean the coolant temp sensor, which always helps since your sensor terminal is probably corroded. Other than that, there's nothing. Just do a full tune up and you should be ok.

BTW, does your car drive normal or very fast when it's cold? Does it get noticably slower when it warms up? Like 30hp loss? That is most likely a knock sensor or a simple tune up. Good luck!
