fuel pressure
fuel pressure
Please forgive me as I cannot search.
My 93 SE is dead. I drove to work no problem. It would not start for the commute home. Testing reveals - all fuses intact, gas in tank, nice blue spark, runs 30 seconds with starting fluid then dies. Also about once every few hours when I attempt a start in will run a few seconds and then die. Stepping on the accelerator at this time kills the engine.
I assume a fuel pressure problem, e.g. pump or pressure regulator or something.
I replaced the fuel filter with no improvement. Unfortunately my repair manual depicts a pressure gauge inserted in the line after the fuel pump with simple hoses and clamps. Yet the only guages I can buy have a schrader valve designed to hook to the fuel rail. I do not see a valve on my fuel rail. How else can I test the pressure? Can I unplug the filter, crank the engine and see if I get a geyser of fuel? Do I expect the gas to hit the ceiling of the garage or just trickle out if I do this? How can I test the control valve?
Many thanks.
Jake
