5-speed swap

Im trying to do a tranny swap. Could someone help me with what is needed. I saw the website to do it on a fourth gen. I was wondering if you go to maximum tuning if you need a 5 speed parts car also or if they can get you all the needed parts. Also if you did an ecu upgrade, would it run right since it was an auto that was converted to a manual?

parts car

makes the job a hell of a lot more convenient since all the parts and little bs is right there, and you can part out the car and get some $ back

i had mine swaped at max tuning, took about a week. Jeff does these swap jobs pretty often and i had no problems with my swap except the clutch but that was the fault of the part and not the labor

Don't waste your money on the auto tranny. Automatic sucks and is expensive to repair. If you do the manual swap, make sure to get all the manual tranny mounts. You can use your auto CV axles since they are the same. Other than that, it all bolts up (shifter, tranny, mounts, etc) the only custom work is drilling 3 holes for the clutch master cylinder. Then you can mount the master cylinder, clutch pedal and hydraulic lines. You also have to rewire the reverse lights for them to work. In addition to that, I put a jumper in place of a fuse in one of the engine bay fuse boxes. I forget what it was for but, without it my car wouldn't start.

Autos are fine if you maintain them.
they are no more rexpensive to repair than a stick, AND they are much easier to find parts for.
Even if a complete rebuild is needed I can get a kit for less than $400!
Can't say the same for a stick, Plus I don't have to worry about burning out my clutch, or having to replace it either.

If you swap the wiring harness and ecu, you wont have this problem. However you check engine light will come on due to the fact that you dont have a Variable Intake and you'll have an xtra plug. Solution...make sure you get the VI off your parts car.

the 5spd rebiuld kit maybe more (but only if you need sycros because the bearing kit is under 200$) the only diference is i can rebiuld a 5spd in my garage but i would have to take an auto to a shop plus an OEM aftermaket clutch is only $125 so thats nothing to worrie about

i would guess the ratio of rebiult maxima trannys @ 150k is

1 5spd for every 30 autos and that is just sad but its the truth

Internetautomart, this is totally OT but you have a good price on injectors, are those Bosch? I dont even want to tell you how much my brother in law just paid for one injector. I am going to keep you in mind for parts more often...

I just dont know where you came from all of the sudden, kind of scary

Do you do this for a living?

The conversion to 5sp is not really that complicated. The intructions for the 4th Gen are incredibly similar, and for the small differences, a Haynes manual should solve the problem. Once again, look trough the posts before this because it's a topic that has been discussed over and over again.
Hey mods, about making a sticky with the info?

The injectors are actually on my friends page
and yes I sell parts for a living and I am currently working on getting my own store. So tired of working for putzs.

I came because I bought the max to fix and sell it.
Then I drove it  I decided to keep it instead.
So I signed up here, saw people looking for parts and decided, HEY I can sell them parts and still make myself a bit (very little) of money too.
SO I do.

I'm off now

Well, after doing my manual swap, I came to the conclusion that I absolutely friggin DESPISE automatic. I hate it and will never own another auto car again. I mean, my car was ungodly slow before, most of the time because I would slam the gas pedal to the floor multiple times trying to get it to downshift. I just like being in complete control of the car. At least now my car is a little more lively, although still not fast at being a ~15sec daily driver.

Dude, you dont need to be skilled. I did 2 complete swaps by myself. a 92 automatic to 5 spd and a 94 5 spd to auto. Before that my mechanical experience was changing oil. Having the confidance of my dad being a mechanic and a garage full of every tool I needed was a big help, but he wasnt of much help really. Just discuraging comments about how I was gonna end up with two piles of shlt when I was done and how he was gonna have to put it all back together when it didnt work. Then again he may of just been tryin to motivate me to succeed.

Get a chilton/hanes and use this place to your benefit. Without the org I would have been lost and I wouldnt have even considerd it. Hopefully they will make a detailed sticky for a 5 spd conversion soon.

moral of the story....just do it...you wont learn until you try, plus youll save an assssload of money.

Nice, I put you on my buddy list and when I need something I have bookmarked your page so I will check there for pricing. Good prices I can see why you only make "very little" Good pricing for the overnight shipping also.
