The stock NGK plugs seem to work best the Maxima, especially in the VE30DE engines, SEs are extremely picky about their plugs.

I have Bosch platinum's in mine and they seem to get along. The commercials for Split Fire's sound good, but I've also heard some real horror stories about them. I, personally, would take a chance on them.

My car seems to like the Bosch platinums +4 but i've only had them 2 weeks. But the car loved the regular bosch platinums.

I have Autolite, and do not care for them much. The NGK were not available when I needed them most. I had to go with what was available in an emergency situation. I've learned not to stray much from "Genuine Nissan" parts, the hard way.

Bosch Platinum +4s

I tried the Bosch +4s in my 93 SE and they missed like crazy, every time the idle dropped it would start missing.

I was really afraid of what it was doing to my engine, as soon as I could I called Courtesy Nissan and ordered stock plugs, it hasn't missed since.

split fires are a gimic. get the stock NGK's for ~$1.50 each. I don't think that you would notice any sort of improvement beyond a normal plug on a NA engine.

How exactly can I tell if my engine starts missing.

What does a "MISS" feel or sound like?

Thanks.

The copper NGKs for VGs are $1.50, the platinums for the VE engines are more like $9.50 each!

Make sure you get the correct plug!

Re: Re: Bosch Platinum +4s

Basically, the engine just hesitates as the spark plug misfires. The whole car will probably shake a little, you'll feel it in the seat more than you'll hear it.

I can't really explain the sensation, but if you're parked at a light and you feel a soft of bucking off and on, that's most likely the engine misfiring.

Bosch Platinum +4's in my 93 SE and they're great. Bosch invented the spark plug so I think they know what they're doing. I'm sure the NGK's work fine too but I like the 4-electrode design.

Can't the platinums NGK's be used in the VG too?

Theoretically, any plug with the proper gap can be used, I don't have a lot of experience with the VGs, but there shouldn't be any problem using platinum plugs in it.

Changed plugs for my VG yesterday

Copper NGK's. They work pretty well. I didn't put anti-seize so I smell gas today.
I also found out the stock plugs on my VG is something like "Autolite", not NGK. Why?

There is a technical serive bulletin for sparkplugs

Standard type NGK PFR5C-11
HOT TYPE NGK PFR4C-11
COLD TYPE NGK PFR4C-11

I'm not using ngk. I'm using bosch plat. at the auto store
they have two different heat ranges for the bosch plats
posted . So I am now trying the next hotter heat range,
with no big difference.

If you car is heavily modified you might want to try the colder plug instead. but if your mainly stock you shouldnt try this because the plug may foul a little when you come to a stop.

Could you please expand on the smelling of "gas" by not putting anti-seize compound on the threads of the plugs.

What is the correlation? I have never heard of that before.

Autolite plugs are not stock on Nissans, and never have been to my knowledge.

As for smelling gas, applying anti-sieze compound isn't going to keep out any gas smell, something is wrong there.
