how low are you RPMs going when you are backing up? I know that mine shakes in reverse a bit unless i give it gas and its beacuse my RPMs are really low. but if you give it a lil gas it should stop shaking. as far as i know, its just due to low RPMs

The engine idle at low RPM really sucks in the VG. Especially when you are moving very slowly like in reverse. Don't worry about it too much unless it starts happening when you are doing your everyday driving.

Hi,

the shacking times happen when iam at a stop sign or when i slow down for a red light or when i moved forward when iam in a red light.

before it was worse then until i bought the fuel injector cleaner it kind of improve the car by making it less shacking but there is still shacking,

does this ever happen to the ve engine?

this seem really weird,

when i start the car i back up the car, next i go into the street then wait for the red light once it is green i turn and go up a hill, if i keep the speed down to 35 mph i won't smell any egg smell,

when i go around 40 or 41 or use the first gear when i go up the hill i start to smell egg smell,

if i use the first gear but keep the speed around 35mph i don't smell any egg smells,

can a coil cause the car to shack?

the egg smell is common, i have the problem, but i dont pay enough attention to des`cribe it that detailed. and the shaking is because of the idol (sp*) is too low and the RPMS are going down to like 500 or a bit less, mine does it, prolly a lot if not everyones does it. its nothing to worry about

A rotten egg smell usually indicates a plugged catalytic converter.

As for the "shaking": Try raising the idle by a little bit. I can't remember off the top of my head how to do it on the VG. Any haynes/chilton/factory manual will tell you how.

Hi,

when i first start the car cold the rpm is at the middle betten 1,000 and 2,000 rpm when the engine starts to warm up it goes down to 1,000 rpm and when i rev up the engine the shack goes away a little bit but the shacking is still there but not that much, but it seem a little more smooth then before,

if i go down hill when the engine is cool it seem smooth and quit, and after on a highway the car seem smooth and quit,

That sounds about right, maybe even a little high on the idle side.

How about this: How many miles are on your spark plugs and wires? Also, how does the distributor cap / rotor look? This is a common cause for misfiring which causes shaking.

Hi,

my idle will be okay when i stop for a red,

then once a while the idle will flop up and then go down, it will happen once a while, until i push the gas it will be okay,

ok a 89-94 GXE has the VG30E engine in it
89-91 SE has VG30E engine in ti
92-94 SE has VE30DE engin in it
Ignore the VQ30DE engine, newer Gen, not in any of our engine bays

no, no GXE ever had a VE30DE engine, and there is no VE30E engine. And yes the GXE was the flagship of nissan back when it was new. Its considered a 4dsc, which is why the SE have 4dsc on the doors. But the GXe was considered luxury and perfomance all in one and the highest maxima you could buy, along with the highest sedan you could buy before purchasing an Inifniti. Just like new maximas today, even thought they have changed the model kinds ( like SE and GXE, now i belive its SE and SL, but im not sure if its SL or something diffrent)

The ECU and the ECM are the same thing in this context.

The 10th digit in the VIN number will tell you the years. '00 would be Y, '99 would be X and so on. Try it and see what you get
