do i need a new tranny?

i got a 92 se auto. the transmission skips in between 2 and 3rd gear...but heres the catch...it only happens once in every 10 trips maybe. it revs really high at the top of 2nd and i have to let my foot off the gas to get it to shift. im gonna get the tranny fluid replaced and see if it still does it. but does anyone have any other reasons as to why its doin this?

Does it matter how far you've pressed the gas?

I was thinking that the TPS (throttle position sensor) may be going and causing the shift problem.

it's on the throttle body, but I highly recommend you having it scoped before even considering replacing it.

So the TPS affects the way the transmission shifts? The 91 SE I just bought shifts firm when cold, and soft and slow from 1st to 2nd when warmed up. Actually it shifts a little harder under full throttle than it does half throttle???
But once the engine/trans is warmed up you can't really feel the shift from 1st to 2nd. All the other shifts you can feel.?.?
Also the other day I noticed......every once in a while....when torque converter locks up gettin on freeway.....it locks, unlocks, locks, unlocks then finally locks.??? This has happened twice in the 2 weeks since I bought the car. The transmission has never once slipped tho. Just has the annoying slow, smooth, power-robbing 1st to 2nd shift when warm.

We have electronically shifted transs on some of our maxs (don't remember if it's all 3rd gens or not)
So the TPS acts like a TV cable to control. on electronically controlled trans
