Dont want a rice sound, what muffler should i get....

I just purchased a warpspeed y-pipe and their new high flow cat that they now offer, and my question is what kind of muffler will sound good on tha max with these mods. I was planning on goin to triple a muffler and getting the rest fabricated to the muffler; catback, but just buy a good aftermarket muffler. I don't want my Maxima to sound like a rice burner, i am looking for something with a deep growl in it. I am thinking either flowmaster or magnaflow, not sure in which one i should get. I had flowmasters and my 300zx and those were way loud, you could definately tell that i was coming in with that exhaust. But im do not really want tha max to be that loud too. I don't think it would look right sounding like a v8 cuz that is what my Z sounded like. Something subtle but when i get up on it you can here her purrr......and when im in neutral it still has a small growl to it, nothing ricy, i hate the sound of those exhaust. Just please can someone help me out, i do not want to buy the wrong muffler. Also if anyone knows a precise brand and model number to what im describing please tell me so i can get it. I want it to look good and sound good too. Thanks

imo my idea of a good sound for this car would be basically the sound of the stock muffler but a tad more ballsy

Yeah that is what i am kind of aiming for, so who makes a muffler that is like this. That kind of looks stock too, but with a deeper growl to it. My friend has this 89 Prelude si and his exaust just sounds horrible in my oppinion. When he revs it up i wanna cringe, he purchased the exhaust off of ebay. I have looked on ebay and they sell the generic rip offs of Greddy and Hks mufflers, but that is what he had bought too and he car sounds like a rice burner big time. Maybe because it is a honda, i don't know. But I know Nissans are tha **** and mean big business and i want my Maxima to represent.

I read a while back that Greddy has some muffler that has just the right tone to it at low RPMs. At highway speeds, it is nearly as quite as a stock muffler. Trying as I am, I cannot think of what it is called. Sorry bro!

Borla Turbo muffler. $100 off Jegs.com. It sounds good, a little louder than stock, but very quiet for an aftermarket exhaust. Doesn't sound ricey at all. Hopefully I can get some vids in the next couple weeks after finishing my max (new engine/suspension/brakes).

I have a N1 style muffler. It has a loud grunt tone in lower RPM and at 3500 you cant hear it cause my intake drowns out the exhaust. If u like bein known when u come into a parking lot then u should do my setup. Custom 3inch catback exhaust, hiflow cat, and N1 style muffler. The only problem is later on it starts to annoy people on ur street because when u come home at 2 or 3 am u will wake up a lot of people.

couple weeks ago, I put together an exhaust for an SE-R friend..
he HAD a Brospeed muffler and a 22" resonator.. that thing was so loud, I had a headache after about 10 min in the car.

we installed a 2.25" Magnaflow muffler, 3 or 3.5" tip on it.. he paid about $80 for it off ebay.
added that and a 24" resonator, and the thing sounds GOOD. no rasp, no rice, just a nice mellow tone. you can barely hear it at idle, and when he's on the gas, you hear more from the intake than you do the exhaust- all the way to redline and back down. I was very impressed.

Do you have a resonator? I'd like to see a pic if you have one...I've been planning to get a dual tip magnaflow for awhile....

Damn dude, wtf is wrong w/ your car in that video? lol Just right click the link and click save as. Did you cut your cat. off, and then start the car w/ it off and exiting just before the cat.? I did this too and it was sooo loud!!

On topic: Be like me, get a Civic cat-back exhaust from one of your ricer friends for real cheap and install it on the Max! lol Mine now sounds like my neighbors 350Z. It's great! I love the sound of it, the piping fit damn near perfectly and it was only $75 for the whole system!!! Gotta love Honduh's sometimes? lol

Which series of Flowmaster do you have? I heard a 50 Series is the biggest that will fit on our cars, and it has a real low tone. Not sure though.

3 inch exhaust overkill for a NA application

Is the resonator a generic brand? I'm looking to get a longer resonator (to replace the stock unit) so it can quiet my car down a bit. Sucks to drive a loud car while having a friggin headache

It was for a 99 EX. Here's some pics of it and I'll try to get some sounds for you guys. That is, if I can get my neighbor to get his car out of the garage! lol He babies that car! But, hell, I would too! lol As for the stock 350 muffler, I think it'd be pointless?
