Does anyone use automatic transmission fluid as their power steering fluid? I've heard of some people doing this and I'm wondering if this will work; I guess the principle is the same, hydraulic pressure.
Any ideas?

I believe it says in the manual that, in our cars, you are supposed to use tranny fluid in the power steering system. It states what specific fluid to use (SAE3 or something like this).
yep, but make sure you read the manual to get the right kind, I forget what it is off hand.

This is something I need to get at here. The PS fluid is real old in my car and really needs to be changed out. Been having a low humming like noise when turning the steering wheel to the extreme left or right. Is there a drain plug in the system? Chilton manual just barely covers this topic.

I used synthetic in mine, but I only flushed the resovior twice (two weeks apart to let the fluid intermix). You might need a new washer if you decide to drain from below, and there might be problems with getting all the air out of the rack.Originally Posted by R92max
