Air Ride Suspension

Hey Guys,

I really want to put my 94 Maxima on bags...I need a new suspension anyway and I want to have total control over what height she sits at. It would be sweet to slam it in the parking lot, have it about an inch lower when just cruisin, and raise it up for speed bumps and in the winter w/ all that snow and stuff...

Can anybody point me in the right direction about where to get a decent kit?? I've been lookin' around and this is the only ones I found...

http://www.kmwperformance.com/prod.a...994&Category=1

Thanks Guys

Direct Bolt on? On a third gen? Sheesh it would be nice if we could get the simple stuff like coilovers in a bolt on package.
Pricing
Couldn't even tell you what you would need
Brands are:
Air-Ride Technologies
CCE Air Systems
CCE Hydraulics
Drop And Destroy
Easystreet (?)
VIAIR Corporation
at least that I know of

no southwest has no kit for 3rd gen, Juan never had bags on his max. We were gonna do bags on my car but that kinda fell through for now, yes you can make them work but its going to be custom, I dont know what more he can tell you besides what brands and what direction to point you in since its all going to be pretty much custom ( did I say that right? man I'm tired ) Juans been busy this past week so Im not sure if he'll see this post but Ill tell him about it tommorow.

Hey guys...

What do you all think about that link?? It says that "These kits include everything you need to install on your vehicle. Check the description for information on what brackets, struts, or cylinders come with the kit."

And who is KMW Performance??

Is this legit...and bolt-on, or is it still all gonna be custom?? Thanks for all the info you're writin' back guys!!

Guys...I've got a pretty interesting update...

I e-mailed KMW Performance last night and they sent me something back today...check this out!

E-MAIL: ---->>>

The kit is bolt-on. If you know how to remove the factory struts, you
will have no problem
installing this. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks.

So what do you guys think?? If it's truly bolt-on I'm going to save for the kit...

Nissan Maxima - Front (1986-2003)
Includes left and right air struts.
Nissan Maxima - Rear (1986-2003)

just make sure, that he know that not all maximas have the same suspension setup, and these arent bags, they are air struts, alittle different.

My buddy just ordered a kit from them for his QX4,and everything listed came, but there was still not enough hardwre to make the system work, so he still needs to buy additional hardware. The kit comes with th ebare minimun it seems, and NO instructions.. i mean nothing.. so if you dont have an idea on how to do it, i wouldnt bother. luckily my buddy had his friend who was an airbag installer specialist talk to us at a party, and he gave us a ton of info on what we need to do, like set it up. the kit was a front back, so it only came with 2 sets of valves, which would work but not really be safe, cause you want valves at every corner anyways so air doesnt rush between sides on turns and stuff. he got the kit with 2 tanks, and it didnt come with enough stuff to connect the tanks.. wierd. overall the matierials and the compontents themselves are good quality, that guy said everything was legit.. the struts are KYB GR-2 struts.. so if you want a good deal buy from that company, but be prepared to buy extra compentents to set up the system properly..

Brandon90gxe: Thanks for all that info...
it looks like doin' this would be a real pain...why wouldn't they include instructions....argh...it's not like they install kits so they don't lose money...and a complete kit should be a COMPLETE kit....damn people!!

Juan said he doesnt think the kit is bolt on due to the design of the rear struts, you need to call and double check with the guy to make sure he knows how the 3rd gen rear suspension is setup.

if you go to the exact link to the maxima kit (I used 93) it says that it uses air cylinders for the rear so it is possible that it is a bolt on kit. I was thinking just like Juan because of the rear strut design (all being one piece and the strut just goes in the housint) but when I read it was a cylinder then that cylinder can replace the strut just like the inserts do.

Who knows until you buy one .

yeah I think thats what he was planing for my setup, I would still call just to double check.

ah, the first time i check back at this site in a while and of course you have a post up about doing more mods. the thing you got to understand here joel is hooking the kit up is simple, finding where to put the tank, compressor, valves, gauges, etc. is going to be the big problem for me. i guess i could mount the tanks and valves in your spare tire well (you would prob need 2 smaller tanks instead of one tank) mount the compressor beside the sub box and make a plate to hide it with a fan to keep it cool and gauges where the strobe light controller is now and have the switch box come out from your glove box. oh and if your doing this might as well get the wireless remote as well. and if you do get this then it leaves a very big door open to add things such as air controlled hidden gas door, hidden air controlled switch panels, and my favorite..... real trucker air horns hahaha

and by the way GET A MANUAL TRANI, your auto is crap and with the nitrous it's only a matter of time before it breaks. speaking of which how many times have you used it? also, you don't really need to replace you suspension.....you just want to get air ride. isn't your car low enough as it is, next time you'll take out your whole undercarage and not just the body kit

i closed on my house wednesday so i've been non stop working on that so i can move in. THANK YOU jason for all the help so far, even though you take way too many union brakes and show up 4 hrs late

fronts are bolt on, strut with an actual air bag incorporated into it. thats all there is to bolt on. the rear has to either be air rods, which are 3-4 inches wide so it will never fit into the stock strut housing or a strut-bag cartridge, which is alot more expensive, and the rear wont be low unless you cut out part of the tube. plus theres no real way to secure then down. there are 4 3rd gens that i know of that have bags, but i dont know the people personally and i'm 99% sure they didnt install them themselves. they all came out before strut bags became universal( they were sold only as mc phearsons for a really long time) so im sure they are strut bags up front and cylinders in the rear.

Thanks Cous,

Hey Mark,

Yes, of course I post about more mods...I'll never be done, you know this...

Yeah, I know I have pretty much no space left...I've been thinking about where the heck I'd fit it all, lol. I thought about two 3 pound tanks and the valves where you said. Maybe we could put the compressor behind the sub box with a fan built into the rear seat where the arm rest comes down...I dunno though. The gauges could definitely go where the strobe controller is b/c it's kinda empty there. And as far as the switch box, I like the wireless ones on ebay...
We'll see about the manual...it'll happen one day I'm sure. And yes, I just want this bagged setup...I don't really NEED it...but the car is stock height and that's just too high, lol...
You know I'll never sell this car, but if I do you know you'll have it in your garage...and if you'd install this of course you'd have new parts comin' for your TransAm WS-6...(everybody should check that out...it's hella hott!)
We've got some stuff to talk about dude...later, Joel

yes yes, the 2 3 pound tanks and if you do get a kit you gotta use ½ inch lines (for fast inflation) look for some bags with a decent amount of travel (i wanna try and 3 wheel this biznitch). it looks as if i may have to do some torching and welding to get it to lay though. i may be getting a few more beater cars soon i'd suggest you get one instead of using the max as your main car because it'll be in the garage for a while if this happens. i took the TA out for the first time this year yesterday and was smokin the tires a little, once it gets a little warmer then i'll use the nitrous and let you ride along, 440+ hp

also:that pic above really looks photoshoped

straight bags will not work. it's like taking out the shock and leaving just your spring in. not good, will never work without major drawbacks. i know they are out there, i have yet to see one that just bolts up
