Transmission Noise
Transmission Noise
I have a 92 5-sp SE. When I start to accelerate in 1st gear it makes a slight ticking noise. I think that it is coming from the transmission because when i place the car in Nuetral it goes away. This sound is also in 2nd gear at low speeds. However once Im going above 25 mph the sound goes away. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?
Check you exhaust manifolds while cold, There should be a total of six studs in each side.
If not the ticking sound is probably as a result of that. The ticking noise is normally a symptom of that on the VG30E engine, usually one of the no 1 cylinder studs has broken.

Damian

theres also a slight chance it could be tranny bearings or maybe even wheel bearings but im not sure youd think if it was the sound would be there all the time
yeah i have a 94 gxe and i had the same problem and it was a broken exhaust manifold stud. im going to end up replacing them all hom much would it be if i took it to a shop and could i do it myself im a great diy but if its to tricky maybe i should just take it in and have it done not sure any one know how much it is to get fixed?

I ended up just replacing the whole lot, there are four bearing in the box.
I had run it just a little too long with the bearings that way and my gears suffered for my sins soft tranny noise is now noticably louder esp in 1st and R.

Check out http://www.4dsc.com/articles/drivetr...ld_studs.shtml for a detailled description of doing this.
