Do we have a locking differential?

I've called the local auto salvage yards looking for a used 92-94 DOHC tranny and they keep asking me if I have a locking differential. I'm not familiar with transmissions enough to know if I do or not. Thanks.

So, does that mean I answer yes when the guy says do you have a locking differential?

go look on your tag in the engine bay (silver tag on firewall) and if the trans code ends with V they the answer is yes.

Most if not all 92-94 SEs had the VLSD trans.

I don't know if it's "locking", but it is at least "limited slip".....

I think locking differentials are for 4x4's aren't they?

Technically locking is different than limited slip. Locking is rare on the front axle of vehicles, most likely on very rare 4wd SUVs. I think the junkyard guys are using the term loosely, or interchangeably with LSD, even though they are in fact different. Ask them what they mean by locking. Tell them it is a limited slip differential LSD equipped transmission from 92-94, with either the automatic or manual transmission. It is not an open differential. It is a LSD.
(the confusion probably comes from RWD, where the terms LSD/locking diff are often incorrectly substituted for each other) So the junk yard probably means LSD when they are saying locking.

yeah, if your car has an LSD, and they ask you that just say yes, same thing in that respect, but a locker is completely different than a Limited Slip.
