spring rates?

Sorry to post such a basic question but I can't find this info and can't use the search feature.

Does anyone know the spring rates for the 3rd Gen cars? GXE and SE both?

Thanks

I have a 91 GXE auto and was thinking of putting springs from an SE on to tighten it up a little without lowering it.

I believe the srpings will swap with no problem while improving the ride. Not sure about the compression rate though.
You shouldn't have a problem just putting them in.

the SEs are definitely stiffer, but only marginally so. I dont' know numbers either.

you also need good struts.. the GXE struts are absolute crap. I spend $500 on new factory GXE struts on my uncle's car and the ride was exactly the same as the 100k mile old struts on the car. my uncle was NOT happy!!

buy Tokicos or SE struts at absolute minimum.

Hey Matt, I have to replace my struts as well and they are either going to be KYB or Toxico. Can i also swap the rear stuts from an SE or do I have to swap in the whole rear strut assembly unit because of the disc brakes?

the shocks part on the back are inserts that go into the strut housing.. they're the same for SE/GXE. the springs will fit fine also.

now, if you want to do the rear disc swap, you'll need the strut housing off the SE.. otherwise, the springs and shocks will swap right over.

Cool. I'm not planning to do the rear disc conversion anytime soon. But the SE Im getting the hood and front bumper from has four wheel disc brakes. So I might just pick up the rear strut housing while Im there.

just get the whole strut assembly with the brakes on it and the parking brake cables.. a couple hours of work and it'll save you tons of time later. while you've got those struts off, you can swap in a new strut insert and stick the SE springs back on it.. then it's a simple bolt-on job to swap the discs.. it won't take much more time (like 20-30 minutes total) to swap the discs when you do the strut job.

I wouldn't really do this because any SE springs you get will also have over 100k on them also. I'd just buy some Eibachs or ST springs.

I think you're going to need the springs off an SE Auto, at least the front ones anyway. They have different lengths left and right (don't get them mixed up). The rears are the same MT or auto.

I was wondering where I'd heard this story before! This was years ago, right?

BTW, it's Tokico, not Toxico...

Ooops! I did that on purpose... Really...
Anyways, I think Im gonna get the struts housing now, called the junkyard and had them set it aside for me. Then when I replace my shocks, springs and struts I'll just swap the brakes as well
