Power Door Locks actin' up...

When I go to lock the doors sometimes, only the door i'm locking (which is the drivers door) locks. It seems like I have to unlock and lock the doors from the inside for awhile before the door will lock from the outside. This is a big pain the you know what.......Someone help me out here.....

Where did you get your rear lights from? Did you smoke them yourself?

They're stock. I smoked them myself. I got some spray called "Nite Shades" or something and sprayed some coats over them

What happens when someone runs into you and then claims your tail lights are illegal? (thus removing the responsibility to you?) I kinda like the look. But not at the expense of making the taillights LESS visible.

sounds like it could be your door lock timer

it usually starts with the power locks not working sometimes and then it eventually gets worse and then the power locks stop working at all but you can still hear a click in the dash (just to the right of the steering column) when you hit lock/unlock

it's a small grey box just to the right of the steering column after you remove the lower dash panel. You can resolder it and that'll fix your problems. If you dont know how to solder, Matt93SE can do it for you for a fee (much less than the cost of a new unit).

In cold weather, I turn the key and it unlocks and then locks immediately. Is this a door actuator or timer problem?

1. I've seen the lights at night and there is plenty of visibilty because there are a lot of light coats on there. Also, I didn't make them for less visibilty....
2. They are no different or darker then the jaguars or some of the grand prix's are any of the cars that run around with taillight covers (basically what mine are).
3. I have been pulled over a few times, even yesterday for having expired tabs and have not heard a peep about them.

.....and so I am not worried

But back to the subject though......Anyone else have any ideas, I can't keep having this issue....

I am loving those tail lights more and more. Back to the subject, it really sounds like your belt motor might be mulfunctioning. You might have to replace it. It won't be necessarily expensive, just a pain in the butt to get to!

I think that's a different issue and not door lock timer related. The only symptoms I know for the door lock timer needing to be resoldered are that the locks stop working at all and it becomes more frequent. But you can always hear the relay clicking inside the timer. I've fixed probably 5 or so cars with this problem myself and seen many online with the same symptoms and same fix.

The fighting problem does seem to be pretty common too but I've never had any problems with mine *knock on wood* so I have never really diagnosed it. I know Kaleb was looking into it for a while but dont know if he ever made any conclusion. I think it's probably actuator related or keyhole related (maybe the switch in there is going bad).

I have the same problems with my '93. It started as just those, but escalated to the point where my locks now have a mind of their own. No matter how I unlock (and sometimes when I lock) them, they most often will unlock and re-lock several times before deciding to stop. And every once in a while (if the car is running), one or all of the doors will lock for no apparent reason. I have spoken with mechanics who say it is the lock actuators themselves. It may be possible to clean the assembly within the door, and that might help a bit. Otherwise, I think your options are either deal with it or replace the actuators. Also, the cold issue is due to the effect of cold on electronics (anyone else's door keypads not work in the winter?). There's not a lot you can do there. But your problem is most likely a combination of the actuators and the cold. As soon as there's a reasonably warm day, I'm going to pull my door panels and see what I can do about this on my own. I'll keep you posted on how it works out.
If you are really desperate for a solution, try this: My locks nearly always work after I hit my car's roof. Not hard, just a flat-palmed slap above the door. Just don't do any damage (I've been doing this for years and it hasn't hurt anything).

Yeah......I've been having this problem now off and on that last couple days and it seems to happen in the different temperatures during the day. I don't have the electronic keypad, but I still don't know whats up. For the times it's not working, I just lock all the doors except for the drivers door and then lock that one from the outside. Anymore ideas guys or are we all out......

It's a pretty small board and might take you 10 minutes to resolder the whole thing if you want to be sure.

If you look at the joints, it's usually pretty obvious. There is usually one or two cold solder joints. They're usually the ones going to the relay.

if I set my alarm then come back out to my car and unlock it from the driver's side, the alarm will go off. It wont go off if I unlock the door from the PS though *shrugs*

Alright, I took my door panal off and couldn't find anything but a bunch of rusty parts and so the next best thing I guess is to look into a shop taking care of it. Any more ideas before I take it in?

I finally got a chance to take the panel off and noticed how rusted and falling apart was the lock/tumbler (what some people call it) was. So, I'm going to order one and replace it, but I was just curious if anyone has dealt with this stuff before or who has done a replacement like this?
