i am going back and forth on whether or not i should use my easy outs on my manifold stud that broke off (stuck in the head) or whether i should go into the shop. i work for craftsman so tools arent a prob. im only 17 but i have enough knowlege to get the job done. from what ive heard its not difficult, its just a pita, and time consuming. the shop quoted me for $250 for fixing that one stud, i plan on replacing all of the rear ones, and it will only cost me a fraction of that. i need to do something becasue i dont even drive my car anymore (it sounds like a lawnmower and drives like shiaaat/hesitates badly/idle sugres.) i dont know how loing the guy before me had driven the car like this, but i got it a week ago and its been doing it ever since. what do you guys think?

 

If you're up to the job, it's not that bad. just pulling off a bunch of stuff and putting it all back on. alternator, AC compressor, bracket, radiator fans, Y pipe, manifold...

then drill out the stud(s) and put it all back together. you're looking at about 50 for parts for each head, and 3-4 hours each.

 

If you think you can do it than do it ,it will save you a lot $$$
This is who i took out the broken studs after i removed every part
as matt says.
Used a small air drilling machine ,because electric are too big.
drilled a hwole of about 4 mm into the broken stud .
Most of the times you do this this the brokenwill screw by
the drilling machine furter into the head ,thats oke .
then i put a shorted 8 mm dril into the machine and just do a
very very little drilling into the hole (this because most of the time
when the stud is broken there is a little damage or obstuction of the threat)
Then i took a left threath tap fitted in the 4 mm hole and took out the
broken stud by very litlle force.
Do this very carefully so the left tap will not break.
Also use of some wd 40 will help when you take out the broken part.
hope this is giving you some help
