New 3rd gen owner

Just picked up a 3rd gen max yesterday. Its my first foray into the world of Nissan. My other car is a 95 honda accord sedan w/ h22 swap and some other minor mods. My question here is, what are some possible powerplant upgrades for my max. I know there are simple bolt ons available, but i need more power to start with. I asked about possibly swapping an RB25det, but got some negative feedback on that idea. Any suggestions?

A little more information might help.. what year is it and is it a GXE or a SE (SE has spoiler and GXE doesn't)

You can get a Y pipe, better intake, maybe if you're up to the work do a turbo for the VG engine. That is a complete engine swap from a VG30DE to a VG30DET (from a 300ZX i believe) Clear corners, Warpseed Exhaust Complete, JWT ECU, piston upgrade from the 300ZX. Mainly if you didn't get it yet most of our engine parts are compatible with the 300ZX and all the other mods I listed will probably bring you HP up to about 200 (excluding the turbo swap - 220+ HP)

Id heard from a friend that the maxima shared the same engine as the 300 (minus the turbo(s)). I was told that the RB25DET would be a problem to install because it was from a rear wheel drive car (maybe i missunderstood what was being explained to me)...Would i have any such installation problems with a 300zx engine?

Wont fit, least thats what i hear repeatidly on here....but i think with enuff money and time anythings possible. realistically speaking NO it wont fit, it would be more logical to just buy a 300zx

The engine swap is from an 84-89 300Z turbo (VG30ET), NOT the 90-96 300ZX TT. That engine won't fit (without extensive costs involved).

save yourself some time and money trying to play with skyline motors and just turbo the VG or get a VG30ET from a Turbo Z31....and for turdlett...the 300ZX pistons are the same as ours....there would be no power gain from swapping the internals

I know of one really good mod you could do for an extra 30 hp, a higher redline, a tighter suspension, more power to the wheels, and nicer looking MAX!!

Thought I would leave some suspense there---Sell the GXE and buy a '92-'94 SE 5spd. Mine was worth searching and waiting around for. I'll even give you a really good deal and sell it to you for $6,000 !! WHAT a deal!! They're getting more and more hard to find you know.

BTW, J/K

I totally agree. I just got a 92 SE 5 speed last Friday, and I have to say, it's very rad. The performance stock is quite impressive.

Whaddaya say! 6 grand for my max, I'll even throw in an ice scraper and a drop in K&N air filter! Think of all the time and money you would save by not having to add that to your GXE! All kidding aside, the GXE is a good motor too. Just get a y-pipe, CAI, UDP, upgraded ecu, nitrous, and an auto transmission upgrade--valve body kit I think it is called (I like my 5-spd). I think this would add like 30-40 hp at the flywheel plus the 50-70 shot of nitrous, and the harder shifting tranny, and you would be doing alot better. I haven't done any of these myself but according to what I have read, this is probably accurate. If I am wrong I am sure someone will slam me for it! Good Luck
