Manual Tranny Fluid

what kind of manual tranny fluid is best for these cars, how much does it take. i know in my talon the tranny took more than the owners manual says, so that why im asking. Pennzoil syncrhomesh is what i use in that car, but i dont know what is ok for the MAX. any opinions appreciated. thanks

You can browse the "Fluids and Lubricants" section for more info, but I know that Redline MT-90 gear oil is a popular choice for our trannies, as well as Amsoil Series 2000 75w-90 or 80w-90 gear oil.

yeah, the syncros are made out of brass so you cannot use gl-5 gear oil. it can cut the life of your syncros down pretty dramatically. i think the redline mt-90 comes in a gl-4 version and i'm pretty you can get gl-4 oil from amsoil. if you can get a synthetic gl-4 gear oil by redline or amsoil then that's the way to go for sure.

MT-90 is Redline's GL-4 synthetic manual tranny fluid.

Use MTL if you live where it snows.

I don't know of any local places that carry it, the website lists this place as a dealer: Forte's Parts Connection · Burlington, MA · 781-273-9900. I have ~3.5 qts of Amsoil 80w-90 if you just need some to top your tranny off or something.

Go with the Redline MT90, I switched to that in my other Nissan and had great results. So much smoother shifting, no more reverse grind. 10X better in very cold weather too. Summit Racing carries it.
