Bulbs for braking

I looked closely at my spoiler's red light and my rear window red braking light and noticed that both of them melted, and they melted inside pretty bad. they are 12V 18W bulbs, which might be too hard for such a small box, they melt everything around it thats not metal. any suggestions on smaller bulbs that will give off as much light for brakes? thanks

No other bulbs you can really buy for that low wattage. Best thing right now is LED's. The only problem is that they aren't as bright but they don't use as much energy at all less than 5 watts for about 20 LED's.
