I should have seen that it was not going to be a good experience. I had to explain to the idiots what ant-drainback was and they thought I had a Toyota.
Overall Outcome: My ticking sounds even worse, the POS even seems to be running different, I hate Jiffy Lube
, VTC's have ruined my week, and I am getting drunk tonight.

Whats the moral of your story? Dont go to Jiffy Lube? lol I already knew that one. So I NEED to make sure to get the right filter, or the filter i get might make my car run ****ty?
I see no one mentioned this and as I love the Nissan filters and yes they are no longer available I have switched to the Motorcraft filter.
Basically it is a Puralotor Pure one but costs less.
It is the Motorcraft FL-400s. Fits perfectly works well and usually runs about 3.50.
If anyone wishes I could do a cut out of the filter at my next oil change to show its contents.
I used to use them on my turbo straight six. Never ever had a problem at all.
Not to mention if you wanted to go to a full 1quart filter, the FL-1A from Motorcraft, seems to have the same thread and ring diameter as the FL-400S.
I have yet to verify this myself.
This is my .02

Not sure if anyone took notice of the numerous times I had mentioned this, but I'll just throw it out there once more, the V8 Toyota filter 'D3' is the best filter I have used hands down. I've tried, the little Yota 4 cyl F2 and the Mobil 1(clacked the whole time on start up), and both clacked towards oil change time. The D3 just ticks quitely with no clack on even the coldest start ups. I use Castrol 10w30 btw. Give it a try.
someone with a ve motor(dohc) which ticks a little after cold starts should try keeping their oil 1\2 a quart over full ....now hear me out
they could see if their sometimy vtc tick goes away by adding 1\2 qt (or 1)of oil overfull
and try it before the next oil change was scheduled any way
i think on a 4qt system its not much over at 12.5% overfull(1 qt =25% so 1\2 qt 12.5%)
but why would a car company tell us to keep it at 87.5%full on oil ...... i still think vtc tick happens more when im parked at nicks house(pointed uphill)
(also my wtr pmp groans a sec when cold im sure its the wtr pump)im switching back to my 91 se 5-spd gets more MPG foo

I was comparing the f2 filter to the mobil1 filter, the mobil1 filter has bigger diameter holes, also I have noticed that it is the same product as the K&N performance filter. I will give it a shot pretty soon, after a front main seal change.
I am talking about the outlet holes, F2 and the D3 has the same amount of holes with the same diameter, remember the oil filter is sitting vertically up side down. As an engineer speaking the amount of time for the oil to circulate both is negligible, but you will have less restriction with the Mobil1 filter as oppose to to the F2 and the D3 filter, because of the outlet area being greater than the 2.

Question here. I have a VE w/ 173k mi. that I will be selling. It clicks pretty bad right now, especially on start up. I just got it as a parts car/ fixer upper a few months ago, but now have to sell because I am moving. If I use the Toyota 'D3 filter do you think it will quiet it down substantially? Thanks.

1) Mobil 1 oil/ Mobil 1 filter
2) Castrol Synthetic oil/ Napa Gold filter
3) Castrol Dino oil/ Napa gold filter
Now that my car is nearing 200,000 miles, I get some noise and and an accompanying oil light for about two seconds upon cold startup. (A condition that did not exist when the car was younger.)
I want to try using a filter with an anti-drainback valve on the ole' VG and see if it helps. Would the 90915-YZZF1 or D3 be preferable?

) dealership to buy them.
I have been using Napa Gold filters as long as I can remember. Do they have an anti-drainback valve, as well? If so, is there anything else I can do to keep more oil towards the top of the motor? Should I start using 10W30 in all temperatures? I don't have issues with the motor burning oil, it just takes it longer to circulate from a cold start than it used to.

So whats the general consensus with regards to Toyota oil filters? I don't at all feel comfortable using a 4cylinder filter such as the 90915-YZZF1 , that being stated, Toyota offers other filters for V6 applications such as the:
04152-YZZA1
90915-YZZG1
90915-YZZD1
90915-YZZD3
Whats what?

Might I offer you guys a suggestion?
I'm sure most of you haven't heard of Union Sangyo Nippon filters. They're available from worldpac sources like www.thepartsbin.com and the like. They're a japanese company with operations in a few places. I belive their filters are made in malaysia. These are *excellent* quality oil filters. I still have one from my old 91 Maxima SE (wrecked) that I plan to use on either my '81 Datsun 210 or 86 Pulsar. Not only are these filters excellent quality, but they are also *sticklers* for making their filters just like the OEM peice, right down to the color and part number. Every valve and spring and the like will be in place just as it was in the factory filter.
I was surfing around for parts and remembered this thread and the different filters, so I thought I'd post.
This is their take on the good old 15208-60U00:

versus my 15208-55Y00

I have a friend with a 300ZX who uses the upper filter because it mimics the old Nissan piece so well. I've been using their version of the VG filter on all my Nissans for some time now. They were great on my now-dead Maxima. As we can see in the pics, both filters use a nice red silicone anti-drainback valve. The blue filter does not use a bypass valve, however...which is weaksauce.
Just a suggestion. Take it for what you will. If only their website was as good as their filters.

So I'm about to change the oil in my VE again. I've been using the small toyota 4cyl filter for the past year or so, but what is the consensus now?
Is the 4cyl filter better or the V8 filter better?
Is the 4cyl filter better or the V8 filter better?
Take it or leave it
Well i dont use the Toyota brand filter. I have been using the K&N for the toyota 4 cyl. But some people were saying that the D3 filter for the V8 was better. I think im just going to stick with the 4 cyl size which i think is the Mobil 1 M1-103 and Castrol 5w-30.
