Well, I was told that If I wanna see this engine last, and my parts and mods do there best with as little hassle down the road as possible, I might as well do em all, time does wear em and my mechanic figures that while the engine is all torn down, just do em! If they need replacing later cause I dont do em now, its a **** load of time and $ to do em as they go...

I've never seen/heard of a chain break. I've never seen a really worn out tensioner(although this should be cheap/easy to replace). If you want new vtc assemblies, it will cost about $350-ish each.

I was informed that all 3 chains, and a total of 7 sprokets could benifit by being replaced, im gonna have to ask about the VTC thing, im not to clear as to what that is... It all on the passenger lower back part of the engine i guess............ Do they make proformance CAMS for the VE30DE???

I'd suggest you take your car to the dealer, as your mechanic is trying to take your money. Yes a new chain is better than a used one, but I tore down a 165k mile motor and the chain looks perfect, the tensioners have tons of room left (like they could move out 4x the distance they are out and still function properly).

For the VTC's, I'm just going to rebuild mine when I get around to it, lol. IIRC the rebuild kit is like $50 or something like that.

why is the engine being torn down? I could see replacing the chain, but the tensioners uhhhhhh... I wouldn't tear a good running engine just to replace the timing chain though.
