Hesitation

My 1993 Maxima SE (VE30DE engine) is experiencing hesitation problem. When the traffic light turns green, I push the gas pedal and the engine didn't respond quickly. It feels like going from zero to 40 mph in 20 seconds or so EVEN when I pushed the gas pedal almost all the way to the metal.

I replaced the fuel filter and it did help, but only for temporary...and it's coming back to same old thing.

What is wrong with my car? It has only 48,000 miles on its odometer. No modifications...all stock, except K&N drop-in filter.

I've tried search in this forum and it seems not working for me.

The first thing to check would be the engine codes to see if the computer is throwing any codes. There could be alot of things causing this problem, but on these motors the knock sensor (KS) gets sluggish and will cause this. You might also want to put the expensive gas in for a few tanks and see if that helps. If the computer doesn't show any codes, you can put a 470 resistor and bypass the knock sensor TEMPORARILY to se if this is the problem. If it runs fine with that in there, there's something wrong with your KS or harness. Read the stickies at the top of the page about the knock sensor and the sticky that is regarding the search function.

Just try manually scrolling through a few pages of the forum, as this topic has come up alot-some solved, some not. The Knock sensor is a great start. Some have had trouble with the coil packs cracking or not working right-so those would be other areas to look at.

hmmm

Since you did mention a fuel filter helping, maybe it's your fuel pump?

I would take it to a shop and have them run it for codes.

Other possibilities may include: clogged catalytic converter, incorrect timing (timing itself or knock sensor), bad throttle sensor. There are other things, too.
