Engine has the Shakes

Well I have a 89 4 door Maxima (duh) se. I let my friend borrow my car because he is looking to get one. Anyway, He's driving down the highway and starts to exit off and then the engine starts to shake then dies. He lets it sit a little bit then starts it back up stilling shaking. He shuts it off waits awhile then tries again, runs fine. He brought it back to me and told me what happen now it sits awaiting the mechanic. What do you guys think? Beside get a 92 se 5 speed.

hmm sounds weird...like one of those one-off occurrences that sometimes happens...was it low on gas, is it a 5speed? I figure since it seems to be fine now, you might as well wait for it to happen under your watch that way you can better observe the symptoms and all that.

I had the same problem with a different car- turned out to be a bad plug wire/bad connection with the spark plug. Check the distributor cap, rotor button, plug wires, and battery terminals for cracks, wear, bad connection, etc. Pull out a spark plug and see if it is gummed up.

If the engine died, it is possibly because it was not getting fuel, so check/change your fuel filter. You also might want to check your fuse relay box to see if the fuse to the fuel pump is in good shape. It sounds like an electrical problem to me.
