well I finnaly had the time to go ahead and try to perform the 300 intake swap. I had the intake plenum and manifold and I thought that was all you needed for the swap besides the obvious customizing of the vacuum hoses and such. Well I found out after I ripped my whole intake off that when I put the 300 intake plenum on it didnt line up with the fuel rail. I was so pissed. I was gonna try to rig something up but I figured I better not try to rig the fuel rails. So I guess I'll be off to the junkyard getting a fuel rail off a 300. I realized that my injectors werent in the greatest shape anyway. I'll keep you updated on the swap in the future. So far it seems to be a direct fit but I'm gonna warn everyone that its not the easiest swap. There is still gonna be a lot of customizing with hoses and the actual intake tubing to te filter. This isnt a worry of mine but I know that other people dont feel as comfortable as me rigging up things. hehe. I'll keep everyone posted.

Uhhhh, Me, Kaleb, JustinMC, TurboMax1 could have all told you you needed Z fuel rails.

the up-side.. fuel rails + injectors are only $50-75 at junkyards.

appreciate the sarcasm. I guess I should have known better. I guess I'll do researck next time. I still havent figured out why no one has tried this mod. It has to add power. Well I'm sure someones done it, just not on the board. If there is anything else I might need to know please tell me Matt. Thanks

You won't get any power Chris.... In fact, I'd bed you'll loose power.

Sorry, just felt like picking on ya.. I didn't know until I talked to Justin about it a few days ago.
as for the power, I'm kinda of the same opinion as kaleb.. everything else on our cars was designed for torque, and you're adding a short, fat intake manifold to it (high end HP). it's going to cause a little bit of mis-match on it, but since you've already opened up the intake and have exhaust, much of that's negated. if you get a custom ECU, I'm sure things will really be looking up for ya.
It's worth a shot anyway, eh?

but no, noone here has done this mod yet. the only person I know of that's done anything was to use a 2nd gen wagon manifold on his turbo project.

Do you seriously think that I would lose power. Why is it that Hekiman racing said that there were signifigant power gains. If you look at the way the intakes are designed it seeks as though the 300's is much less restrictive. Do you have any proof to back it up because I would hate to go through the trouble and then lose power.

Proof:
The Maxima's VG30E does 160HP @ 5200RPM and 182 ft/lbs @ 3200RPM

The Z31 300ZX's VG30E does 160HP @ 5200RPM and 174 ft/lbs @ 4000RPM

The 87-89 had 165HP I believe.

Our VG30E intake system uses a power valve and actuator to vary the intake runner length in order to maximize torque down low and HP (better air flow) at higher RPM. The 300ZX does not have this technology.

Well I'm gonna give it a shot anyway. I really have nothing to lose. I'm doing the turbo swap in the summer so if it makes my car slower I'll just hold off until then to change it. I think that it will either help out or I just wont notice a difference at all. I dont mind tearing the max apart anyway. I enjoy it in a way.

I'm with Matt and Kaleb

Your going to lose quite abit of bottom end torque wiht the same toppend power. Now on a built VG that revs to like 7000-7500rpm the Z31 manifold might make more power after 5500rpm but less than a 3rd gen manifold. I have dyno charts of my maxima with just an intake to give you an idea of the shape of my power curve was. BTW have fun with wiring up the FICD, Air regulator, EGR and AIV. Hell if your successful maybe you can sell the maxima manifolds to a person with a NA z31 .
