im kind of curious as to the gains aquired by port/polishing.....and this is directed as a general question not just if i ported/polished my VG max. would it be better to extrude/hone? just wondered if it was a mod worth putting money/time into versus somehting of equal or lesser valus....im assuming its under like $400 thanx

No one has documented the gain, other than probably Nissan Motorsports, from a head port and polish. I'd love to see a before/after flowbench.

An extrude hone process won't remove the material that a port will, but it makes it sooooo smooth.

For an unmodified engine, I wouldn't think the time and money is worth it.

hey kaleb thanx for the 411............
so im guessing that with intake/exhaust and mabye a better throttle body, the port and polish will have better results, but even then its nothing signifigant? hwo much does port/polish cost, extrude hone is like $600

Extrude Honing something is a joke! Hahahaha. You would probably get more gains from clear corners, a GT-R badge or stickers.

I would go for Chinese/Japanese saying, "This car does backflips."

it all depends on your other mods..
port/polish will give you much more gains than an extrude hone though..

there's a lot of factors invovled other than just the port/polish though.. usually when you're ready to spend that much on an engine mod, you've got lots of other mods that let the engine breathe better.. so then your big restriction is the manifold and heads.

extrude hone is a process that pumps an abrasive, viscous liquid through the parts and basically smooths and polishes the inside of it. think of it as something similar to toothpaste with sand in it.

porting and polishing is much more "severe"... on the porting, someone (or a machine) ascutally goes in with a grinder and cuts out metal. then they polish it smooth.
