Towing
Hi all,
I was just wanting to know if it is a really bad idea or not to use my 91 se to tow a small (4x8') trailer and dirt bike. Total weight would be around 500-600 lbs. Would really just be for relatively short drives, maybe an hour each way at max.
Would it be too hard on the brakes or transmission?
Also, can anyone recommend a good place to pick up a cheap hitch? I know I can get a drawtite for around 80 bucks, but I would like to see if I can find any cheaper. Thanks

500-600 lbs wouldn't be too bad at all. I know I've had at least 700lbs of passengers in my car, not including myself. It shouldn't be any different on your tranny or brakes than me carrying that much weight in passengers. As long as the rear end of the car doesn't sag too much, I wouldn't worry about it. There may even be a sticker on the door jamb of the car that tells you how much you can tow with it.

i towed my waverunner all summer with my max...it weighed approx 600-700 lbs...the max can definitely pull it...my brakes wore out faster than usual though...i also live in pa and there are alot of hills by my house...if you are driving mainly on flat ground the brakes shouldnt wear out to fast...
